Position Summary
Note: This position supports North Island College instructors in the Trades and Technical Programs. This posting is for one sessional position at 100% for 10 months and is open to both internal and external applicants.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation is North Island College’s teaching, learning and technology teaching commons for faculty, support staff and administration. The Centre staff assist the programs, people and places engaged in designing and facilitating student learning experiences.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation is North Island College’s teaching, learning and technology teaching commons for faculty, support staff and administration. The Centre staff assist the programs, people and places engaged in designing and facilitating student learning experiences.
We do this by creating high quality curriculum-supported learning opportunities, individual and group facilitated consulting support and development of resources to assist faculty in redesigning/designing evidence-based and pedagogically-sound learning for all students.
This position is to be filled by an internal NIC teaching faculty member who will join the Centre to learn more and be mentored about the field of faculty development and work with others in the support of teaching, learning and technology.
Reporting and working closely with director of the Centre, the position functions in a collaborative team-based role that adapts as the institution matures and needs arise.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Observe and reflect on opportunities to further develop competencies as an educational developer.
2. Participate in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of both new and ongoing initiatives, activities, and learning sessions to support teaching and learning at NIC.
3. Assist director with program and discipline areas to offer instructional support via a variety of formats from workshops to custom sessions, learning activities and projects.
4. Research, review and summarize student-centered and active learning strategies that address diverse learning needs, abilities, and backgrounds of all learners.
5. With the support of CTLI members, provide pedagogical and educational technology assistance for online, digital, and blended course design, video conferencing experiences and other learning technology tools.
6. Identify and create digital teaching and learning resources including videos, handouts, website content, workshop materials etc.
7. Undertake a leadership role on specific projects including scheduling and organizational components.
8. Design and develop digital communications for websites, newsletter, Twitter account etc.
9. Conduct inquiries and share knowledge on educational development and learning technologies as part of professional learning plan and the development of an educational development portfolio.
10. Other duties may be assigned as priorities or needs arise.

Required Education & Experience
- Completed Master’s Degree;
- 5+ years of full-time teaching experiences at the post-secondary level in credentialed programming preferably 50% or more to full-time
- 5+ years of experience applying evidence-informed pedagogies, digital learning strategies, teaching theories, and engaged student learning practices in post-secondary situations with small and large groups such as developing and presenting learning sessions to faculty, facilitating or co-facilitating workshops, undertaking consultations with instructors, providing supportive activities to enhance teaching, student learning, program or course enhancement etc.
- Additional credentials, training, or apprenticeship work in field of education directly related to learning, teaching, digital pedagogies, learning technologies or curriculum design such as BC’s Provincial Instructor Diploma, an Online Learning and Teaching Diploma, Bachelor or Master of Education, Team-Based Learning Certification program etc.;
- A collection of professional development activities taken in the past 10 years related to teaching and learning such as attending the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) teaching and learning conference, BCcampus teaching and learning workshops and Festival of Learning conferences, Lilly Conferences: Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning, Mount Royal’s Symposium for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning etc.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Interest in the field of educational development (demonstrated on resume or cover letter around supporting teaching and learning enhancements, educational technology competencies and course learning design).
2. Able to deliver effective and timely teaching, learning and technology programming on a range of topics (demonstrated on resume and cover letter examples of consultations, workshops, structured learning experiences).
3. Able to work flexibly, independently, and successfully in a team structure (demonstrated via interview).
4. Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Brightspace) and other learning technology tools (e.g., Kaltura, BlueJeans) in own practice and in assisting faculty through developing evidence-informed learning experiences (e.g., demonstrated by cover letter, resume and interview examples).
5. Able to reason analytically and problem-solve independently (e.g., demonstrated by examples showing problem solving abilities in interview).
6. Very good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills (e.g., demonstrated by interview presentation, cover letter).
7. Very good presentation and facilitation skills (e.g., demonstrated by interview presentation).
8. Flexibility to travel between campuses and adjust work hours as required (e.g., a valid driver’s license is required).
