The Social Worker is an integral member of the health care team and is involved in all areas of the ICU. As a member of the health care team, the Social Worker provides direct patient care through the provision of psychosocial screening and assessments; individual and family counseling and treatment; crisis intervention; bereavement counseling; liaison and referral to community agencies; advocacy and discharge planning.
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as a Social
Worker
  • Bachelors degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work
  • 3-5 years of critical care experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in providing crisis and bereavement counseling
  • Knowledge of the Healthcare Consent Act and capacity issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child and family community support services
  • Demonstrated skills in the performance of a therapeutic role including strong assessment, counseling, case
management, crisis intervention and advocacy skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment and to organize, prioritize and problem-solve effectively
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, consultation and teaching skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning
