Position:Social Worker

Program or Team: Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team: Primary Care Clinics and Counselling & Wellness Support Team

Location:This position will be supporting the primary care clinics in Barrie and Orillia. Base location will be assigned as one of these clinics.

Term:1.00 FTE Permanent

Salary: $72,148.00 plus applicable benefits and HOOPP Pension Plan

Closing: July 21, 2023.


About the Organization:

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional social planning and development organization which provides innovative programs and service to Indigenous communities in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York Region, including wholistic Health Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team. As an Interprofessional Health Care Team, Mamaway team members provide primary care, mental health, traditional healing and health promotion services for Indigenous communities. We provide wholistic services in clinic locations, community and in partnership with mainstream service partners.


About the Role:

As a member of the Counselling and Wellness Supports (CWS) Team, this role will use best practices to provide person centred Social Work services working alongside Indigenous clients with complex mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health needs, and their families. This includes assessment, therapeutic intervention and systems navigation leading to successful support in wholistic care. Maintaining a counselling case load, this role works closely in collaboration with the specialized interprofessional clinical team, client, and families. This role supports and works collaboratively with interprofessional team members and communities to develop and implement tailored psychosocial treatment plans. T


What You Bring:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work preferred or a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and an equivalent combination of experience.
  • Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers required.
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and clients; Demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally and provide trauma-informed care
  • Experience working in an interprofessional primary care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of theoretical frameworks and treatment modalities such as crisis intervention, systems theory, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Health Care Delivery System.
  • Knowledge of legislation acts and regulations such as Ontario Works, Public Hospital and Mental Health Acts.
  • Experience working with issues such as trauma recovery, primary care social work, chronic conditions, addictions, dying, grief and loss.

Information About Working at BANAC Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin:

  • Work is typically performed in clinic, office and community settings.
  • Regular travel to meetings and communities, will be required – vehicle an asset
  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement
  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

  • Worksite location
  • Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector
