Purpose of Job:


The Senior Manager role is part of the Retail and Small Business Credit Risk area for the International division. The main objective of the function is to continuously monitor and optimize debt recovery while gaining operational efficiencies and improving the customer experience.

This role contributes to the overall success of the Risk Collections Oversight Unit in International Banking, ensuring business goals, plans, initiatives are consistently executed/delivered in a timely/accurate manner. Collaborates with multiple stakeholders (local and head office) to enable the implementation of strategic initiatives, while fostering the ongoing exchange of best practices, supporting the accomplishment of Business objectives.

As part of the core responsibilities, the Senior Manager ensures that risk collections activities are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures; analyzes and provides strategic insights on portfolio performance trends and contributes to the overall profitability of the Bank through the development and implementation of best-in-class collection practices and procedures, including: segmentation strategies, treatment strategies, Loss Mitigation Tools, technological capabilities, monitoring of leading indicators, overseeing risk methodologies, etc.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Analyse and report portfolio performance trends, providing relevant insights to Senior Management while promoting the implementation of actions to prevent and/or address performance deviations
  • Ensure all credit risks associated with collections undertakings are understood and quantified (where possible), including but not limited to: (people, data, processes, technology, strategy, control quality and vendor management, etc
  • Through project management methodologies, lead initiatives to strengthen end to end Collections effectiveness and efficiency
  • Drive, promote and lead initiatives generating collections improvements by keeping abreast of industry trends and best practices
  • Leveraging strategic influencing skills, provide guidance and assistance to IB Risk Collections units about convenience and applicability of all collection pillars, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing across all sites
  • Ensure Risk Collections units are operating within established compliance/governance guidelines and if needed support the definition and implementation of corrective actions to rectify collection issues noted in Internal/External Audits.
  • In collaboration with other departments within International Banking, assess, generate and provide recommendations to improve programs/initiatives impacting International Retail Collection practices, policies, procedures, systems, strategies, and reporting.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Job Requirements:


  • Undergraduate degree or higher required. Degree in statistics, engineering, business, economics or finance preferred
  • 5+ years in credit risk management or related field with demonstrated experience in collections
  • 5+ years in data management and analytics roles
  • 3+ years in Project Management roles
  • 2+ years leading people
  • High level of speaking and writing in Spanish
  • Strong knowledge of Retail and Small Business Credit products
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Power Point
  • Strong knowledge in the use of SAS/Enterprise Miner, Angoss, Phyton, R or similar statistical software including the ability to apply advanced statistical techniques
  • Strong knowledge of TRIAD or similar account management systems
  • Strong knowledge of collections systems (workflows, dialer, customer management)
  • Strong knowledge of debt recovery legislation, policies, practices across all markets
  • Good knowledge in the use and development of behavior scores, custom scores, credit bureau scores, and their respective validation process
