This position is open to a hybrid work arrangement and can be located in SGI regional offices (Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba & Saskatchewan).
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the quantitative analysis on business opportunities to ensure the profitability and growth of customer segments and insurance products for SGI CANADA and its regional operations. In this role, you will develop a quantitatively derived, fact and insight-based segmentation framework that identifies, defines and prioritizes profitable customer segments.
Job Scope
Because ultimate responsibility for the overall profitability of the applicable products resides with this position, decisions regarding product pricing, coverage and risk appetite, which impact the Operations group, are ultimately made by this position.
Key Accountabilities

Customer Segment Identification and Innovation
- Develops customer segmentation framework that identifies, defines and prioritizes profitable customer segments.
- Identifies, analyzes and prioritizes segment initiatives.
- Collaborates with corporate analytics and marketing to determine target segments.
- Identifies and analyzes opportunities for unique and innovative customer offerings for targeted segments.
- Collaborates with the Customer, Operations and Claims divisions on developing customer-focused programs.
- Influences marketing strategy and plans for various targeted marketing campaigns.
- Leads and develops customer segmented strategies for pricing and structuring existing and/or new products or customer programs for targeted segments.
- Prepares customer sector strategic planning for the future and prioritization of initiatives.
- Presents segment strategies to senior management.
- Ensures staff are aligned with the customer-centric approach and are developing products/coverages that align with the risks of each segment.
- Oversees and supports the development of product strategies ensuring alignment to the customer segment and corporate strategies
- Approves product pricing changes.
- Ensures profitable performance and growth of insurance products.
- Develops a collaborative approach to segment changes with Product Managers, Operations, Customer, Marketing and Claims divisions.
- Liaises with Operations and Actuarial staff to ensure that underwriting practices and product pricing achieve an appropriate balance between profitability and growth.
- Liaises with the Claims division to identify service modifications that are more closely aligned to customer needs.
- Initiates interaction and collaboration with outside vendors and business consultants to solve business problems related to applicable insurance products/segments.
- Liaises with other insurance companies product/customer leaders.
- Monitors industry segment for opportunities or emerging issues.
- Develops strategies to address opportunities or emerging issues.
- Formulates and implements KPIs to monitor and effectively measure success of customer segment programs.
- Collaborates with Corporate Analytics and Business Intelligence to develop successful monitoring processes.
- Utilizes Business Intelligence asset to assist with decision making and create a data savvy culture within the corporation.
- Shares and collaborates findings with Operations.
- Builds a high performing workforce by actively leading human resource activities.
- Ensures development of divisional succession plans.
- Builds a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies, ensuring integration with employee performance development and career development plans.
- Drives performance through team members and is committed to leadership development across the company, supporting employees and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.
- Ensures programs and policies are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.
- Manages risk in area of authority.
- Prepares, reviews, manages and/or approves departmental/divisional budgets.
- Prepares decision requests, decision and/or information items and/or SGI board items.
- Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility, including development, implementation and managing of program components specific to departmental health and safety requirements.
- Makes decisions for departmental operations that are efficient, effective and in alignment with strategic direction and priorities.
- Ensures department and program policies, procedures and guidelines are in compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations; implements and evaluates changes to legislation and regulations in area of authority.
- Establishes and maintains an effective system of internal controls to support reliable financial reporting and compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations within the span of control, and communicates the importance of internal controls to staff.
- Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business or Mathematics and Applied Sciences.
- Twelve years’ experience comprised of eight years leadership experience with increasing responsibility and four years’ experience in a technical insurance, statistical, actuarial, or finance position.
- Knowledge of all lines of insurance.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance.
- Knowledge of the insurance market.
- Knowledge of statistical models and their application.
- Knowledge of organizational units and how they interact to support the Corporation’s operations.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Ability to develop clear and concise business cases and strategy proposals.
- Ability to apply analytical information and drive business value.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and reports.
- Ability to analyze and research problems or opportunities until resolved.
