The Opportunity – Research Associate

Research Associates play an integral role in the Equity Research department by providing crucial support to our Equity Research Analysts. Individuals in this role are learning and developing the techniques and skills necessary for investment analysis and research of securities. A Research Associate typically gains an in-depth understanding of the financial and operational issues within a particular sector, gaining valuable skills, knowledge, and relationships.


What will you do?

  • Perform rigorous fundamental research on assigned securities/sectors
  • Writing and editing company and industry research reports (e.g., quarterly reporting, marketing packages, etc.)
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial models to forecast quarterly and annual earnings, including maintaining and enhancing financial models and databases
  • Compiling and analyzing relevant company and industry information, originating from a broad variety of sources (such as financial databases, regulatory filings, industry publications, etc.)

Profile

  • Intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent spreadsheet and financial analysis/modeling skills
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload, meet stringent deadlines, and perform under pressure (sometimes for extended periods of time)
  • Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and put in the hours (often on short notice) - evening and weekend work is often required
  • Great teammate with strong interpersonal skills, able to establish and build relationships
  • Self-motivated and resourceful with a demonstrated history of self-initiative
  • Above all, a passion for equity research & investing and a keen sense of humour!

Required Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in business with strong academic achievement
  • 1 to 4 years of experience as a Research Associate or similar role is an asset although not required (internship experience will be considered)
  • Work experience or training in financial modeling/equity research
