As a Recreation Programmer, you will plan and run a variety of activities, special events and recreation programs while ensuring the safety of participants. These programs may operate at City pools, Leisure Centre Day Camps and Community programs such as Park and Play. Primary duties include:
  • Support program staff and volunteers by providing coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide subject matter expertise at Leader and Instructor training events.
  • Participate in planning activities.
  • Organize and keep an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide information to interested participants.
  • Populate, print, and distribute program information to customers.
  • Complete program observations and provide feedback.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of participants.
  • Join in on program activities when required.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A completed High School diploma or equivalency (e.g.: GED).
  • At least 1 year of related program leadership experience.
  • Current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications are required.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for work is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • Possess a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) will be considered an asset
  • Applicants must be willing to complete City specific training that is provided free of charge.
  • You have strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness and customer focus.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.

Pre-employment Drug Test:
An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis.
