Tiercon is seeking knowledgeable, self-directed, experienced and hardworking individuals interested in the automotive industry as a Product Designer at our 591 Arvin facility.

Job Summary & Reporting Structure
  • Reports to Manager - Design, Innovation and Product Development
  • To be familiar with and practice and promote all aspects of the ISO9001:2015 AND IATF 16949 Quality System and Health & Safety policies
  • Work within Product Development to generate new product designs using the latest tools and engineering processes. Continuously improve design of current products utilizing VAVE, DOE and other related best practices. This position also applies to participation in the design innovation process and requires the key ability to apply the design needs of Tiercon, the customer, suppliers, and the appropriate regulating bodies to all job tasks.

Tiercon Corp. is an automotive supplier committed to the design, manufacture and assembly of quality exterior trim and assembled systems used as original equipment in the automotive market. Headquartered in Stoney Creek, the plants have design, mold, paint, assembly and testing capabilities. Tiercon manages 5 sites across 2 cities employing approximately 550 people throughout Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Support the product design elements of new product development within the APQP process
  • Design support for the continuous improvement of current products.
  • Design resource during the ECN process
  • Support design innovation projects.
  • The following are tasks (including appropriate documentation) that may be required within new product design, continuous improvement and innovation projects:
    • Vehicle and/or part data procurement
    • Participate in concept design
    • System and component design including reviews
    • Procure and apply all relevant specifications
    • 3D CAD models and drawing creation/revision (NX8.0, CATIA v5r20)
    • Verification and/or validation of design through tolerance analysis, engineering calculations, prototypes, fit-ups, DVP&R management etc.
    • DFMEA’s, DFM/DFA, VA/VE analysis, Material specifications, DVP&R, etc.
    • BOMs
    • Installation ease and work instructions to meet customer expectations
    • Other relevant design elements of APQP, ECRs and Innovation
Qualifications

Education Required

Mechanical Diploma and / or Engineering-Science Degree

Training Required

General Mechanical Design training, CAD, GD&T.

Skills Required
  • Proficient user of core CAD products (One or both of NX, CATIA v5)
  • Ability to participate and/or lead design review, FMEA and brainstorm meetings to ensure design goals are met.
  • Ability to be a design liaison with the customer and suppliers
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Learn/display basic understanding of relevant Automotive OEM, QS TS and ISO systems.
  • Ability to be a design liaison with the customer and supplier as required.
  • Able to develop 3D product models and drawings in CAD using standard industry practices.
  • Able to transfer CAD data to/from customers and suppliers.
  • Learn/conduct formal tolerance analysis and apply GD&T to part and system design.
  • Hands on prototyping and fit-up skills (mechanical aptitude).
  • Learn/utilize practices which enable completion of Design tasks including, FMEA’s, DVP&R’s, engineering calculations, etc.
  • Evolving theoretical understanding of engineering calculations including strength and bending analysis, etc.
  • Ability to learn and apply appropriate manufacturing processes during product development.
  • Utilize standard office software such as MS Office.
