Para-Transit Driver

PWTransit Canada is currently expanding our services and is excited to be operating in the community of Fredericton starting in January 2024.

PWTransit is seeking full-time, part-time, casual Para-Transit Bus Drivers to join our team. Drivers will be responsible for safely transporting passengers while providing superior customer service and demonstrating strong communication skills.

PWTransit Canada is an industry leader in the delivery of safe and customer focused transit services throughout Canada, currently operating services in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario.

Full-time drivers will work between 35-40 hours per week, part-time drivers will receive 10-20 hours per week and casual drivers will work on an on-call basis.

Responsibilities

  • Transport registered customers in accordance with City and Company policies, observing all traffic laws and safety rules while adhering to schedules
  • Complete a variety of vehicle and incident reports as required; carry out emergency/accident procedures when required
  • Courteously and professionally interact with customers, including loading mobility devices and escorting customers to and from curbside as required, answer inquiries en route, make general announcements to customers, collect correct fares and ensure valid passes are presented, and arrange for passenger pick-up and drop-off as required
  • Interface with on-board tablet running dynamic routing/dispatch application program
  • Perform duties efficiently with the objective of maximizing rides delivered within established budget/vehicle hours
  • Conduct vehicle pre/post-trip inspections, reporting defects for attention/rectification by maintenance department

Qualifications

  • Valid unrestricted Class 4 (or higher) driver’s license with a demonstrated record of safe and responsible driving over the past 5 years
  • Clear driver’s abstract
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Negative drug and alcohol testing
  • Proven skills dealing effectively with the public, including demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, problem solving, and sound decision-making in positions providing customer service
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English to communicate effectively with the traveling public and report on incidents involving safety and/or service
  • Willing to work early mornings, late evenings, split-shifts and on Saturdays, subject to shift selection processes
  • Previous experience working with individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities considered an asset
  • Good knowledge of the Fredericton area an asset

Additional Information

  • Selected applicants will be required to participate in a comprehensive recruitment process consisting of interviews, trainability session, medical examination (as may be required for driver licensing), drug and alcohol screening, criminal record and reference checks

Compensation

  • Hourly rate - $23.50
