POSITION TITLE: Mechanical Sub-Assembler

SHIFT: Day Shift

LOCATION: Barrie, Ontario


MacLean Engineering is looking for a skilled and experienced Mechanical and Hydraulic Sub-Assembler to join our growing aftermarket production team in Barrie Ontario. This is a great opportunity to be part of a small growing team, supplying aftermarket parts for heavy mobile mining equipment to various customers internationally, and to our other Ontario manufacturing plants. About the Position
: The Mechanical and Hydraulic Assembler position involves assembly and bench testing of mechanical and hydraulic components to engineering specifications. The scope of work for this position is very exciting and diverse, with an extensive variety of products and challenges, including assembly and testing of: hydraulic cylinders, telescopic booms, chain feeds, actuators, hydraulic manifolds and valves, hydraulic hose / fittings, and various other components for heavy mobile mining equipment. This position requires the following proficiencies:


  • Competently interpret detailed assembly drawings and hydraulic circuit drawings to accurately fit-up and install purchased and fabricated components, using company-supplied, handheld tools and equipment.
  • Create, adopt, and follow “best practice” assembly standards to ensure workmanship and quality standards are achieved.
  • Bench test assemblies to engineering specifications using a 5000 psi hydraulic power pack to ensure product conformance and functionality.
  • Inspection of assemblies / components before and after testing to ensure conformance.
  • Verify and record inspection and testing results as applicable and work directly with engineering groups to troubleshoot and resolve any issues or opportunities.
  • Diagnostic inspection of some repairs or rework to create scope of work for quotation or execution.
  • Safely rig and operate 2-ton, and 5-ton overhead crane.
  • Identify & document improvement opportunities using established processes.
  • Implement and maintain 5S housekeeping principles at all times.
  • Cross-train in other departments as available.
  • All tools and equipment are company supplied, including PPE and subsidy for boots.


About You
: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience assembling mechanical and hydraulic components in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical or hydraulic experience with farm or industrial equipment, vehicles, small engines, hosing or associated component repair is preferred.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineered drawings is required.
  • Crane Operator training is an asset
