Manager of Crisis Stabilization

Job Summary:

The Manager, Crisis Stabilization Programs will perform duties and responsibilities consistent with supporting teams in providing a psychosocial model of care to assist in streamlining access to community mental health and addiction supports for participants who access the Crisis Stabilization Space (CSS). This will also include duties and responsibilities specific to the development and implementation of programs as well as supporting the administrative requirements of Crisis Services.

This is a full-time, permanent position which includes extended healthcare benefits and enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. In order to avoid delays in beginning a position, interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 3 weeks to be delivered and offers of employment may be delayed without receipt of a PVSC.

Job Description and Primary Responsibilities:

Coordination of Staff and Services:

  • Ensure safety and consistent service provision
  • Monitor and review services, interventions, and staff contacts with individuals to ensure that they are being implemented in a manner consistent with psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery principles
  • Organize and direct the work of teams; deploy staff as needed to ensure smooth functioning of each program
  • Coordinate and participate in reviews, program development, case presentations, coordination of service, and problem-solving to ensure effective service provision
  • Develop processes to ensure each program has adequate supplies and equipment
  • Professionally liaise with staff teams, other program areas, and community partner agencies regarding referrals, intakes, and waitlists
  • Collect information on staff daily schedules to identify and monitor risk
  • Provide feedback to team members, and bring issues of concern to the attention of the Director
  • Professionally liaise with other community workers and partnering agencies regarding the delivery of services
  • Model positive interactions that support staff and participants
  • Oversee scheduling and other administrative duties for crisis teams
  • May involve collaboration to develop similar programs in other regions

Staff Leadership:

  • Promote and facilitate effective, communication and staff dynamics
  • Model and mentor positive interactions that support staff and individuals including open communication, respect and professionalism
  • Assist staff in understanding and implementing CMHA Middlesex policies and directions
  • Demonstrate positive leadership in the implementation of CMHA Middlesex/program initiatives, policies and guidelines
  • Ensure staff meetings are held regularly and are conducted in a timely, efficient and effective manner
  • Collect, review and confirm and/or sign-off on regular monthly paperwork including timesheets, mileage claims, education documentation and time off requests
  • Review and approve time off requests based on CMHA Middlesex policies and ability to provide coverage; ensure program coverage as needed for planned and unplanned staff absences
  • Identify staff training needs and coordinate time off for staff education
  • Participate in the recruitment of new staff members including interviewing, selection, and training
  • Participate in the development of program policies, procedures, guidelines, standards and initiatives and make recommendations to the Director for changes and/or improvements
  • Identify and investigate opportunities and partnerships that enhance services to individuals and the operations of CMHA Middlesex; contribute to the development of program proposals to support these initiatives
  • Seek out and maintain knowledge of current best practice literature in the field; share information with staff and evaluate programs in relation to those best practices on a regular basis
  • Gather feedback from staff teams and seek out field expert speakers to enhance team knowledge and expertise
  • Ensure day-to-day supervision and informal staff learning and participate in formal performance management and performance review activities
  • Represent CMHA Middlesex on local and system level planning committees, as requested
  • Identify, assess, respond to, and report to Director, any emergency situations concerning persons(s), or property, as per CMHA Middlesex policies and procedures

Administration and General Responsibilities:

  • Make decisions independently and collaboratively concerning operations of the programs, policies of CMHA Middlesex and accreditation standards
  • Complete and maintain accurate and comprehensive records for the programs and services within this portfolio
  • Coordinate and compile regular and special statistical reports for programs and services
  • Submit data and reports as required and participate in data analysis for the purpose of identifying trends and risks
  • Ensure financial documentation and documentation related to individuals-served is completed and submitted as per CMHA Middlesex requirements
  • Develop, monitor, and coordinate daily staffing requirements, to ensure adequate staffing coverage
  • Ensure that CMHA Middlesex policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Perform duties as the Manager representative for the Health & Safety Committee for the Huron site
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with role and credentials, as directed

Job Specifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in a health or social science discipline
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working with people with mental illness and/or social services field
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment concepts and applications as they relate to harm reduction approaches, withdrawal management strategies and overdose prevention
  • Knowledge of community resources throughout Thames Valley region and ability to assist in the development of referral pathways
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in a supervisory/middle management capacity
  • Good working knowledge of computer office technology such as word-processing, spreadsheets, database records, internet and e-mail resources, etc. and ability to perform basic financial and documentation requirements related to activities and programs
  • Valid driver’s licence, access to a vehicle, and adequate insurance coverage to meet job requirements
  • Proof of current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, fire, health and safety procedures
  • Ability to attend work regularly

Preferred Qualifications/Experience/Qualities:

  • Registration with a professional college (i.e. OCSWSSW, CNO, CRPO, CPSO, COTO, CPO)
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation concepts and applications
  • Knowledge of current mental health treatment practices, crisis and suicide intervention skills training
  • Experience working with 24/7 programs
  • Previous experience working in a residential treatment facility
  • Training/accredited credentials in middle management/human resource skills
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications
  • Knowledge of electronic client record systems
  • Knowledge and experience managing schedules
  • Bilingual in both official languages is an asset

Hours of Work:

  • 35 hours per week; hours of work may include afternoon, evening, weekend and statutory holidays with occasional call-out for emergencies
  • On-Call Team duties as per the schedule
