Position Summary

The Commercial Marketing Manager is responsible for establishing and owning the commercial marketing positioning and enabling the commercial arm of the Canadian Healthcare Commercial Operation. This role is key to establishing commercial alignment and positioning among various Customer & account types, sales models, and field-based organizations, considering the expansive commercial products, services, and representatives. The Customer environment is the vantage point for this role, while considering business unit/product/service strategy and the goal of alignment into a cohesive commercial position. Additionally the coordinating of the Canadian tradeshow environment determining where best to invest. The goal of the Commercial Marketing Manager is to ensure a unified and clear STERIS perception in the marketplace, ultimately influencing Customer satisfaction and commercial effectiveness.

Duties

Commercial Marketing Strategy (75%)
  • Architects a cross product line, cross business, integrated commercial marketing approach and positioning for the STERIS Canadian Healthcare Commercial Operation, including key commercial differentiators, messaging, and overall commercial marketing enablement (from strategy to tactics) to improve Customer satisfaction, operational efficiencies, and drive profitable impact
  • Ensures clear alignment, understanding, deployment and implementation of the high-level positioning and key messaging among the commercial teams in the Canadian Healthcare Commercial Operation, while ensuring alignment with Americas Commercial Operations. Measures success through KPI’s and VOC building while continuously improving strategy year over year
  • Embeds the vantage point of the Customer and ensures this perspective is primary when STERIS presents our Canadian Healthcare Commercial Operation at the highest, most macro level down to each individual Customer interaction and situation
  • Proactivly maintains strong relationships with product management, R&D, and business unit marketing to understand strategic initiatives and ensure product/service commercial goals are aligned and smoothly integrated in the commercial marketing strategy
  • Proactivley develops, maintains an expert understanding of:
    • Canadian Healthcare industry, businesses, commercial roles & responsibilities, organizational structure and people, products & services, call points across the STERIS Business Units
    • Customer types, roles & responsibilities, influences, motivators, vantage points
    • Customer account types including hospital networks and GPO, distributors, etc.

  • Proactively senses, and identifies areas of value proposition friction in the Customer experience commercially and works with commercial leadership to develop and implement solutions to directly impact these opportunities building a unified brand and value proposition tailored to the Customer
  • Develops and owns a voice of Customer (VOC) program to ensure regular feedback from numerous Customer segments to prioritize and evolve the commercial positioning
  • Keeps a pulse on Customer and industry influencers, perspectives, trends, standards, regulations and matches STERIS offerings to bet support the Customer
  • Manages the commercial approach and spend on the Canadian trade show environment.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of key competitor commercial positioning and marketing

Plan Implementation (25%)
  • Creates necessary projects, programs and deliverables to enable the commercial team to position the STERIS Healthcare offering appropriately based on the audience, deliverable, and situation
  • In partnership with the Sales and Shared Services teams in storytelling, ensuring clear competitive advantage and differentiators, to ensure this message is clear in all Customer-facing interactions and deliverables
  • In partnership with respective business unit marketing and Shared Services teams to implement and ensure commercial positioning and messaging is updated and on-point in respective Customer-facing deliverables, collateral, and digital channels
  • In partnership with Sales Enablement and Sales Training to ensure the Healthcare commercial positioning and included in appropriate training deliverables and programs
  • Leads the project management of appropriate projects identified as opportunities to improve efficiencies or commercial effectiveness. Balances and prioritize a funnel of projects throughout the fiscal year as well as delilvers on managing marketing programs while always looking out to build more
Continuous Improvement
  • Leads the continuous improvement initiatives within the function including leadership standard work, key performance indicators and root cause counter measures, visual management, and standard work.
  • Assumes responsibility as Team Leader in Kaizen events and respective action plans.
  • Leverages process understanding and value based prioritization to initiate continuous improvement opportunities that maximize department efficiency and effectiveness for supported businesses.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor degree required;
  • 10+ years of progressive and varied sales, marketing, and/or public relations experience include:
    • Minimum of 6 years in commercial marketing positions
  • Thorough understanding and experience in the Healthcare industry, Customer types, roles, accounts, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience and success defining and developing commercial positioning required
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of marketing and commercial organizations and structure
