Duties

Live, work and play in some of Canada’s most iconic locations! The Highway Operations Maintenance Coordinator plays an integral role in supervising work crews and ensuring the safety of Canadian roadways. This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Train, orient, supervise and instruct operational staff
  • Perform daily administrative tasks
  • Coordinate / plan highway maintenance and the installation of projects for the Agency
  • Lead health and safety efforts in the workplace

The incumbent of this position must be comfortable using computers, radios and satellite phones to complete the duties of this position.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff one, year – round indeterminate vacancy and one, .75 indeterminate vacancy (9.5 months of the year) in Lake Louise, AB. This selection process may also be used to staff future vacancies throughout various locations or to identify employees of the Highway Operations Unit for a developmental opportunity.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Secondary school diploma; or, an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement

EXPERIENCE

EX1: Experience in the supervision of employees AND programs related to year round operations and maintenance of a major highway
EX2: Working in the operation of heavy equipment and labour disciplines.
EX3: Experience operating snow removal equipment
EX4: The inspection of highway assets, highway construction and associated equipment.
EX5: Risk and Incident Management in a transportation operation.

KNOWLEDGE

K1: Highway maintenance methods, standards, guidelines and equipment.
K2: Human resource management including performance monitoring.

ABILITIES

A1: Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and exercise flexibility in modifying work plans on a short notice based on conditions/emergencies.
A2: Coordinate the delivery of highway maintenance programs and contribute to work planning
A3: Supervise effectively – training, orienting, and instructing to ensure the delivery of program requirements and ensuring health and safety of workers, management of performance, etc.
A4: Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
A5: Ability to use technology.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Parks Canada Agency requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and that they either attest to their vaccination status or have been accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground of discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act prior to the date of their appointment.

Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status;

Maintenance of a valid class 3 driver’s license.

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and required safety equipment;

Willingness to undergo and meet requirements for a pre-placement and/or periodic health evaluation as outlined in Parks Canada Occupational Health Monitoring Program.

Willingness to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions;

Willingness to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time;

This position is designated as safety sensitive, incumbent will be required to comply with the Agency’s zero tolerance policy and report fit for duty.

Requirement to work shift work – during day- and night-time hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays and call back or standby duty.
