Golder has a new opportunity for a Junior Geological Technician OR Engineer to join our Mine Engineering & Stabilityteam on a full-time basis based in Yellowknife.

An Overview Of Your Role Will Include
  • Working with project teams on geological and geotechnical projects that will involve field work, data evaluation, engineering analysis and report preparation
  • Conducting field assignments, such as instrumentation monitoring, geologic mapping, geotechnical drilling supervision, borehole logging, test pit logging, site reconnaissance, and construction monitoring; all under senior direction
  • Preparing geotechnical data reports, calculations and modelling
  • Processing photos of soil and rock slopes into 3D point clouds, perform change-detection analysis, and extract geological and geotechnical data from point clouds using a variety of specialty engineering software
  • Performing engineering calculations and analyses using hand and computer-based tools under senior direction
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical reports, including writing sections of reports, preparing figures and tables, and working with drafting and administrative staff to produce final reports under senior direction
  • Performing any other technician or engineering activities as needed

You Will Have a Background In
  • Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in geology, geological engineering, civil engineering, mining engineering
  • Work term experience preferred
  • Connections to and knowledge of local Indigenous communities including traditional knowledge and language is preferred
  • Training or experience in Geotechnical field skills such as geologic mapping, core logging, soil sampling, and groundwater sampling
  • Experience with industry standard commercial computer software including: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, mine design software (i.e. Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight etc.) and various geo-engineering software (i.e. slope stability, rockfall analysis, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, problem solving skills, and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
  • Willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment and satisfy project demands
