OUR COMPANY

PWO Canada is an automotive manufacturer that is located in Kitchener, Ontario. Main production is stamping, and MAG Welding. We are currently looking for an experienced and skilled Tool and Die Maker with previous experience in manufacturing (automotive preferred) to join our team. PURPOSE OF POSITION

The purpose of the HSE Student is to promote awareness, identify and control potential safety and environmental risks within our company. The position will develop and implement safety and environmental programs and is responsible for overseeing these programs as well as reporting to upper management on their progress. The position is also responsible for the creation and management of job specific training programs to ensure knowledge on equipment across all functional areas of the plant.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

The position is primarily responsible for assisting with activities related to the maintaining and promoting the company’s environmental and health and safety program, assessing and improving work processes, and creating awareness of safe working practices. The position may also be involved with conducting ergonomic assessments and physical demand analyses, or developing robust training programs to ensure employees entering new areas are given proper job specific training and education.

Internal contacts include personnel in the Tooling, Production, Maintenance, Shipping and Receiving, Quality, and Human Resources departments. External contacts include Workplace Safety and Insurance Board representatives, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of the Environment and Public Health representatives. The incumbent is responsible for his/her own work and monitors the work of others in order to ensure safe working procedures. Decisions made by this position impact all departments of the plant, in the short and medium term.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:enrolled in a College or University Co-op or internship program, keenly interested in Health, Safety and Environmental fields

Knowledge and Skills: The incumbent must have basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Canadian Environmental Protection Act, ISO 14001:2015 standard and must be familiar with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations, standards and guidelines.

Communication Skills:The candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and experience working collaboratively with others.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in HSE administration processes
  • Develop and review on-job training material for hourly positions.
  • Review the company’s health and safety program for improvements.
  • Research, develop and document health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with company-wide visual health and safety key performance indicators.
  • Assist with equipment risk assessments and review Pre Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSHSR).
  • Maintain company emergency plans.
  • Conduct ergonomic workplace assessments in order to review and assess work processes to prevent injuries.
  • Actively participate in the company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and follow up for completion of all identified issues.
  • Perform monthly safety inspections and audits, and communicate findings.
  • Update the SDS sheets and records for all materials within the company.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and protect employee privacy.
  • Assist in designing, preparing, implementing and maintaining the environmental management system.
  • Assist with information gathering regarding environmental operations in order to ensure permit renewals and regulatory compliance.
  • Inspect the site for environmental compliances. Determine the root cause of environment issues and plan for appropriate actions to overcome them.
  • Maintain clear and complete documentations for reference purpose of the environmental management system.
  • Work with cross-functional groups to maintain monitoring programs and environmental management. Determine areas of improvement to lessen environmental wastes and impacts.
  • Any other duties are performed under the guidance and direction of the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
  • Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
  • Follows and performs to the processes and instructions outlined in the Process House that are applicable to the department.
  • Compliance to all HR company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
  • Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Manager.
