Our client is dynamic, growth-oriented and safety-focused company. Providing collection and processing for Waste, Recycling and Organics, we are looking for full time energetic and driven General Manager to support their growing company.

The General Manager will report directly to the Regional Vice President, BC Solid Waste. He/she will learn and lead their business operations in accordance with the company’s strategic plan, in addition to managing established operating and capital budgets. The General Manager will be responsible to develop and enhance best practices in operational effectiveness and implement safety practices consistent with practices across operations.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Plan and route collection services to best utilize personnel and equipment.
  • Implement corporate guidelines concerning the Preventive Maintenance program that reduces down time, improves image, reduces maintenance costs and results in lowest cost service delivery possible.
  • Establish an effective and productive container repair, delivery and switch-out program that promotes a positive image.
  • Develop and implement on-going cost control program that monitors buying practices of all supplies and services.
  • Establish production standards for each phase of operation.
  • Promote an accident prevention program that seeks to reduce claims, avoid injury and recognize safe employees.
  • Ensure commercial and residential route audits are completed on an annual basis.
  • Conduct Roll Off account profitability analysis semi-annually.

Financial Control/Planning

  • Ensure that a purchase order system is used for all purchases and that clear guidelines are established for purchasing practices.
  • Ensure that all services provided by the facility operation are billed and revenues are collected on a timely basis.
  • Review profit and loss statements on a monthly basis and make adjustments as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Develop an operations profit plan, which includes sources of income, cost of operations, growth objectives, productivity standards, profit margins desired capital requirements, personnel needs and product or services profit margins desired.

Sales/Marketing

  • Partner with the Sales Manager and/or Sales Representative(s) to develop a sales forecast for each product or service
  • Establish pricing guidelines for each product/service.
  • Promote a strong customer focus throughout the operation.
  • Manage the sales force in meeting objectives and establishing priorities.
  • Ensure the sales team is using approved software to identify and track potential customers.

Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of experience in senior operations management in the solid waste (or comparable) industry including not less than 8 years in Profit and Loss (P&L) management accountability for an annual budget of not less than $60 million.
  • Thorough knowledge of strategic planning, contract negotiations, and administration of solid waste operations or equivalent.
  • Direct experience working with regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of technical, transportation, logistics and environmental practices including compliance requirements within the solid waste industry or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of overseeing safety and accident prevention programs.
  • Experience growing operations in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
