Position Title:
Facilitator, Family Resource Program - Circle of Friends


Location:
James Park Elementary, 1730 Coquitlam Avenue, Port Coquitlam

Terms: Term, Part-Time


Hours of Work:
8-20 hours per week

Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 8:45 am-12:45 pm

Wednesdays 4:00-8:00pm


Salary:
$22.30 per hour + $0.45 hourly premium until March 31, 2022

One of the Lower Mainland’s leading charities, the YMCA of Greater Vancouver provides services in health & fitness, child care, camping, employment & community services to over 120, 000 participants annually. YMCA Child Care, Western Canada’s largest provider of licensed child care, serves over 2400 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years at over 50 licensed facilities throughout the Lower Mainland.


The YMCA Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) operates Circle of Friends, a YMCA Family Resource Program. Circle of Friends is a free drop-in program where parents/caregivers and children 0-6 play and experience fun activities in a warm and welcoming environment. Parents/caregivers have access to resources and learning opportunities, and have the opportunity to network and share ideas. Circle of Friends is funded by Success By 6 and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.


Nature & Scope:

Under the direction of the YMCA Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) Program Manager, the Family Resource Program Facilitator will work directly within the family resource program, managing the daily operation and delivery of services to children and parents/caregivers.


Major Responsibilities:

  • To create a welcoming and open program environment for all participants.
  • To establish and maintain positive daily communication and interaction with families, providing quality customer service and building meaningful relationships.
  • To organize and facilitate parent/caregiver training opportunities.
  • To provide information on local community resources to program participants.
  • To maintain and develop the parent/caregiver resource library.
  • To understand the principles of best practice in Family Resource Programs.
  • To supervise and provide leadership to volunteers.
  • To work as part of the YMCA CCRR team to deliver a high quality program that promotes best practice in child development and is responsive to the needs of program participants.
  • To work in collaboration and partnership and maintain positive working relationships with other community agencies and service providers.
  • To ensure that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to YMCA requirements.
  • To maintain confidentiality of all information related to the program, the children, their families and staff.
  • To maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all activity and program areas, common spaces, and washrooms.
  • To maintain regular attendance, punctuality and to be appropriately dressed.
  • To read, understand and follow all YMCA Policies and Procedures and legal requirements
  • To perform other related duties as required and be flexible to a changing work environment.


Qualifications/Experience:

  • Early Childhood Educator Certificate required
  • Infant/Toddler Educator and/or Special Needs Educator Certificates are an asset
  • Additional courses/training related to child growth and development an asset
  • 2-3 years of experience supervising staff/volunteers and working with children and families in a group recreational/child care setting
  • Current Emergency First Aid certificate
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of family and parenting issues
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with a variety of cultural and family dynamics, preferably in a Family Resource Program setting.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage time effectively in a fast paced changing environment
  • Ability to speak additional languages is an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/ Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
