RFA’s residential mortgage lending business is operated by RFA Mortgage Corporation and RFA Bank of Canada, a federally regulated Schedule I Bank. The Opportunity
The Director, Finance, will lead the Company’s budgeting, planning, and forecasting process, and will be a critical resource in providing key metrics and analysis in support of organization-wide decision making to achieve growth targets. The ideal candidate will be hands-on and detail oriented, while also possessing a keen understanding of “the bigger picture” in their approach.
The Director will be a highly skilled financial analyst who will provide leadership on complex business management decisions through advanced financial modeling, proven experience, and a critical understanding of techniques and tools to bring actionable insights to the forefront.
This role will provide financial and/or data analysis to support decision making, identify opportunities to improve financial or operational performance, and will provide other ad hoc analysis requested by the Company’s senior management team. The Director is also expected to lead and/or assist in the design and continued development of the processes and best practices of the company’s business analytics infrastructure.
This role will work collaboratively with the organization’s financial operations team to improve internal financial and management reporting relating to revenue, expenses, cashflow, and product economic performance.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Manage financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Recommend strategies for increasing financial performance.
  • Create and maintain variance analysis reports and financial models.
  • Escalate financial issues to management.
  • Present detailed monthly financial reports to managers
  • Collaborate with financial operations team.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the external operating and economic environment in support of planning and decision support.
  • Perform analyses and recommendations with respect to strategic and financial priorities, including analysis on key projects and financial matters and identify opportunities to improve the Company’s financial and operational performance.
  • Conduct specific business analysis on core enterprise performance drivers (e.g., volume, margin, Gain on Sale, OpEx, headcount, profitability, etc.).
  • Prepare and reporte monthly forecasts and project the full year results.
  • Assisting with tracking and reporting on budget/ forecast to actual results, with high attention to details, along with proactively actioning on revenue and operating expense variances.
  • Analysis of changes to forecast through all P&L line items.
Annual budget
  • Prepare annual budgets and quarterly updates, working close with departmental leaders and other relevant individuals within the planning process.
  • Analysis of the budgeted profitability and overhead expenses.
  • Prepare budget reports and packages for executives and board.
  • Manage the Company’s long term financial model and preparation of multi-year financial projections.
KPI, Performance Measurement, Business Reporting
  • Create and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives.
  • Report and analysis of operational metrics, KPIs
  • Lead/assist in the preparation of executive management and board reports
  • Build dashboards and visualizations to improve the effectiveness of insights delivery.
  • Work with operational finance to improve expense reporting and monitoring.
  • Periodic (quarterly, monthly) preparation and presentation of drivers and metrics with analysis and insights on achievement of financial objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to drive revenue, optimize margins, and reduce costs
Capital Markets and Treasury Support
  • Support Capital Markets and Treasury functions through managing/assisting with activities such as ALCO reporting, developing of pricing/offer strategies, post-campaign analysis, cashflow modelling, MBS programs, funding activities, Gain on Sale analysis, and mortgage origination and renewal programs.
What you can bring to RFA:
  • A university degree business, accounting, or equivalent experience; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Canadian mortgage industry and strong familiarity with product economics, mortgage funding, MBS/CMB programs, etc., strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in developing KPIs and other metrics in a mortgage lending, banking, or financial services context.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain key financial metrics to evaluate company and departmental effectiveness and efficiency of resources.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Ability to query in SQL a strong asset.
  • High level of Excel modeling development.
  • Working knowledge of reporting applications such as Power BI preferred but not essential.
  • Significant progressive experience in financial planning and business analysis/reporting strongly preferred.
