The Opportunity

KPMG is looking for a highly motivated and passionate Database Administrator to drive high priority initiatives on Microsoft Azure Cloud platform as well as on-premises databases based on Microsoft SQL. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, maintenance, and operational support of KPMG entire Audit portfolio of databases. Maintain reliability, stability, and data integrity of the databases. Provide support in the administration, backup, integrity, and security of various Azure IaaS (SQL Server on Azure VMs) and Azure PaaS databases solutions (MS SQL, MySQL, Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance & PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL databases (Cosmos, Redis, etc.) Responsible for database tasks from software upgrades and custom interfaces, to troubleshooting. Continually assess, improve, and optimize our current database environment(s).

This role would assist the current Audit application team with applications deployments and give recommendations on how to move from IaaS to PaaS services. Have considerable experience architecting and implementing database solution, understand and be a practitioner of DevOps, be an excellent communicator, and have a get the job done attitude and mindset

What You Will Do
  • Provide database administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support for both on premise databases and Azure PaaS database services
  • Implementing secure database environments; monitor and optimize operational resources; optimize query performance; perform automation of tasks; plan and implement a High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) environment; and perform administration
  • Recommends technologies that will support and enhance the database infrastructure and services offered by Audit Team
  • Assist in testing of new databases, updates, and deployments
  • Support of mission critical databases that are integrated with internally developed applications
  • 1st & 2nd level database support in accordance too service level agreements, incident resolution, change and problem management
  • Provides support on complex and high-impact issues and outages in their field
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on developments in their field and how these developments may be applied within KPMG
  • Other database duties as required.
  • Responsible for architecting and administering next-generation, cloud-native SQL, and NoSQL products
  • Collaborate with global architects, Canadian Architecture, Operations and Security teams to design, deploy and maintain database solutions for KPMG Canada.
  • Collaborating with internal KPMG ITS Audit support team as well as KPMG global audit team to implement, support, manage, administer KPMG audit suite of applications focusing on database services.
  • Collaborate with technical teams on defining cloud architecture standards and best practices, providing consistent recommendations and oversight to team members
  • Understand KPMG’s digital strategy, cloud platform capabilities, IT and business priorities and success measures to design implementation architectures and solutions
  • Ensure that solution exhibits high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, appropriate reusability, and reliability upon deployment
  • Develop deep relationships with key customer IT decision makers, who drive long-term Cloud adoption within the firm to enable them to be Cloud advocates
What You Bring To The Role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related STEM field or work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in relational and non-relational database administration, support, and maintenance for both on premise (IaaS) and PaaS database services
  • Experience in migrating on-premises SQL databases to the cloud levering Microsoft Azure IaaS or PaaS solutions
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate andor to Microsoft Certified Database Administrator preferred but not required
  • Prior work experience in a Consulting/Architecture position within a software and/or services company such as Amazon, Google, IBM, Oracle, and professional services firms would be an asset
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix, and document problems, and implement preventive measures
  • Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based database initiatives, providing associated training as required
  • Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
  • Strong understanding of Cloud Native Database Architecture and principles and Infrastructure as Code
  • Hands-on experience in designing, configuring, and administrating secure and scalable Cloud database platformssolutions on Microsoft Azure
  • Implements and manages the operational aspects of cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure Data Services
  • Knowledge of Azure PaaS components Databricks, Data factory & Azure Synapse
  • Knowledge of CI/CD Systems, such as Azure DevOps and Github services
  • Knowledge of cloud automation using, Azure CLI, ARM & Terraform to enable Infrastructure as a Code, AWS CLI, Cloud formation, Ansible, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge of Operating Systems including Windows and Linux
  • Proven track record in system integration and design and setup of Infrastructure as a service and Platform as a service deployment
  • Confidence and ability to lead discussions with clear goals, deliverables, documented agreements and follow up actions
  • Ability to work as part of a cross functional team by developing professional standards, managing time, and contributing to the success of the organization
  • Ability to participate in fast-paced DevOps and System Engineering teams within Scrum Agile processes
  • Significant experience working in Azure. Added experience working with AWS and GCP is a plus.
