Our team of health professionals includes employees, doctors, researchers, learners and volunteers that provide the health care or services you may need. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager or delegate, The Clerk is the initial contact for the unit. The Clerk provides clerical support for unit operations including the interdisciplinary team of all mental health professionals, physicians/psychiatrists, and the Health Services Manager.

Clerical support may include but are not limited to registering of patients, faxing, data entry, and photocopying, answering phone calls, responding to public, staff and patient inquiries, booking appointments, Order and maintenance of unit supplies. The Clerk works collaboratively with other support staff, mentoring when indicated; may be required to cover other positions within the clerical and admin support group. Ensures documentation is complete and accurate as per standards. Liaison between Health Information Services and the team.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII plus one year related experience or graduate of a recognized one year secretarial/business program
  • Previous time capture and scheduling considered an asset.
  • Medical terminology is an asset
  • Previous STAR and PHS experience is an asset
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates problem solving and decision making skills
  • Expectation of a high level of Customer Services when dealing with clients, families, clinical teams and the public
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSHA patients
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties, while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, or as a member of a team (interdisciplinary or clerical)
  • Ability to deal with numerous task, interruptions and change an asset
  • Typing and computer skills an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful external applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment

Salary Information

$20.0923 - $21.9129 Hourly
