The Transit Market Sector at HDR is a broad and diverse practice that spans a large variety of transit project types including LRT, BRT, subway and heavy rail. We perform planning, preliminary design to detail design, construction and program management services.

Primary Responsibilities

HDR is in search of an experienced leader to join our growing transportation team in Toronto and drive the continued growth and success of our Transit Engineering practice. In the role, we will count on you to oversee the operation of the transit engineering business for clients across Canada. You will lead its growth, expansion, and positioning efforts and as an important leader in our team, your responsibilities include:

  • Provide people leadership for the transit engineering group, with respect to technical competence; career development, coaching, mentoring, and recruitment.
  • Deliver top quality services and products that meet client expectations
  • Provide technical leadership to keep the transit engineering practice as a top leaders using state-of-the-art systems and tools, such as CIM/3D modeling.
  • Collaborate on business efforts with area operations, marketing and project management
  • Participate in and network across HDR’s global transit practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices while implementing effective quality assurance and quality control reviews
  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation
  • Coordinate and manage best practices under development in the Transit Engineering business.
  • Work closely with the market sector leadership to achieve annual financial goals
  • Conducting monthly coordination calls with HDR’s Regional and Area leadership including operation, staffing and marketing discussions
  • Perform other duties as needed

This person will serve as the focal point for the Transportation Business Group to deliver necessary Transit Engineering related services and create alliances within the Business Group to assure the most efficient transit related services are being delivered for HDR’s Transportation clients. An important aspect of this role will be to provide technical leadership within this team that can assist on critical projects, mega-projects, and pursuits.

Additional duties include internal and external client relationship management, recruiting and staff development, technical leadership, worksharing coordination, quality management and best practice development. This position encompasses pursuit and proposal preparation coordination with technical staff, presentations, and negotiations. This leader will work closely with other Transportation Business and Regional Transportation leaders on delivery of existing projects and developing long-term tactical plans to best serve the needs of our Transportation program.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
