Program Coordinator
Reporting to City Staff, the Program Coordinator is responsible for development, organization, implementation,
supervision, leadership and evaluation of community based programs. This position works with a variety of age groups
and services that require additional program support. The Coordinator will oversee Community Association/Society
programs by providing overall direction and be responsive and relevant to the needs within the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming
Develop, implement, coordinate, supervise and evaluate recreational, wellness, social, cultural and educational
programs and services for the diverse needs of the Community.
Connect volunteers into our programs and services.
Develop partnerships and network with Richmond Community Associations/Societies, Community agencies and
service providers to develop programs and services to reach residents who are underserved. Develop, plan,
coordinate and implement and/or support special events.
Instruct and lead programs as required.
Supervisory
Provide leadership for staff reporting to this position. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate instructors, volunteers
and practicum students.
Responsible for payroll, scheduling staff and facilitating meetings where necessary.
Safety/Risk Management
Follow and implement risk management and emergency protocols as required; complete risk assessment forms,
incident and accident reports in a timely manner.
Customer Service/Communication
Develop positive relationships with the community.
Liaise with schools and community agencies to develop and maintain a network and act as a resource to provide
information and referral services to the community.
Deal with difficult and complex situations, requiring sound judgement and the ability to assess and respond
accordingly.
Create and distribute promotional, marketing, and educational materials using a variety of tools.
Administrative
Prepare and manage program budget.
Prepare written reports to Association Committee’s.
Maintain supplies and equipment and set up facilities as needed.
Book facilities, buses, drivers, and plan/prepare detailed schedules/itineraries for programs/trips.
Research and apply for funding opportunities.
Attend meetings, conferences and workshops as required; provide regular updates/reports.
Document and report abuse or neglect to appropriate authorities.
Other related duties as assigned and may vary according to each facility.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 12 plus completion of diploma in recreation or related studies and two years’ experience in program
development, applied leadership, supervision, programming and building and managing programs budgets or and
equivalent combination of education, training and experience
BCRPA High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification.
Computer skills including Microsoft Office
Standard or Emergency First Aid Training & CPR & AED
Knowledge of community resources.
Class 5 driver’s licence.
Police Information Check.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Marketing and event planning skills.
Experience working with volunteer boards.
Second language.
Class 4 Licence.
HOURS OF WORK AND WAGES
25 hours/week (flexible schedule, some evening and weekend work required).
Wage: $29.00 - $29.87/hour (depending on experience).
Benefits package after 3 months.
