About The Position

The typical career path for an engineer continues in the position of Production Engineer. This position provides an opportunity for engineers to be involved with the plant management team, in the refinery or crushing operations, with the possibility of moving from there to other plants. Engineers are assigned to a production unit where they gain first-hand exposure to the leadership of employees, equipment trouble-shooting, and dealing with the myriad of challenges faced routinely in a facility that operates around the clock, 365 days per year.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Production Engineers apply their engineering expertise to monitor production processes and equipment, solve production problems, and provide input to process improvements
  • Develop capital projects and submit budgets for approval
  • Perform the duties of department superintendents in their absence
  • Involvement will include sizing of equipment, identifying equipment capacity requirements, developing process control systems, increasing efficiencies of the flow of fluid materials, etc
  • They are exposed to the installation of new equipment and modification of existing equipment, along with all of the inherent training and start-up issues that must be addressed
  • The work is in a variety of plant settings in food processing plants
  • All other duties required

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Demonstrated self-starter and able to self-monitor with minimal oversight
  • Results-driven to provide support to achieve the goals established by leadership
  • The ability to provide motivation and demonstrate leadership qualities to all plant personnel
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement approach, decision-making ability, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Computer skills and capability with Microsoft Products
  • Applicant must be able to accomplish results by working in all types of climates, both inside and out, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, noisy environments, heights, and dusty environments, all of which require the use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Customer needs are met through the production of a high volume of quality products
  • Maintain records, deal with employee performance issues (if any), and monitor the production process to keep it running efficiently, consistent with plant operating needs

Education or Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural) and 2+ years of production engineering experience in oilseed extraction and processing, grain handling, and oil refining is preferred

  • Work in accordance with local/provincial legislation
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements
