Eaton’s Electrical sector is currently seeking a Product & Manufacturing Engineering to join our team. This position is based at our Edmonton, AB facility.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing design and drafting activities required to support customer order engineering and factory assembly. Incumbent uses CAD technology to make original models or drawings involving new or existing standard apparatus for low to high complexity orders, working from design specifications, oral instruction, or sketched concepts. The incumbent will provide back-up to manufacturing engineer process for Oracle item masters, routings, BOMs, ISO orders, and DMM Admin outputs for the fabrication process.

In This Function You Will
  • Product Engineering
    • Using 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), develop motions, clearances and other involved features of an apparatus or customer equipment design.
    • Instruct and train manufacturing personnel on new or revised manufacturing methods & equipment, and aid in resolution of daily fabrication technical challenges.
    • Prepare customer approval drawings, outline drawings based on bill of material and marked input documents from Customer Order Engineer/Specialist.
    • Revise and prepare assembly models and drawings, based on approved customer drawings and instructions from the Customer Order Engineer/Specialist.
    • To enable wiring design, arrange components to insure physical fit in the space defined.
    • Provide low voltage compartment layouts of wireway and devices. Provide device mounting hole locations and pattern on back pan drawing.
    • Calculate fits, tolerances, strengths, weights, electrical circuit parameters and similar items. Anticipate manufacturing and/or customer requirement problems and develop design solutions.
    • Consult with customer order engineer/specialist and lead product engineer on problems relating to a design or customer order project. Consult with other departments as required to obtain or provide information.
  • Manufacturing Engineering Back-up
    • Create Oracle item masters, routings, BOMs for make parts and assemblies
    • Secondary ISO order coordinator.
    • Secondary DMM Administrator. Release fabricated parts from Oracle MRP to DMM based on priorities according to production schedule.
    • Raw material/consumable forecasting.
    • Secondary parts programming and program maintenance. Program all new parts, upload all new drawings; maintain DXF files and program files, make sure all manufacturing documents are available for fabrication team.
  • Maintain/update data daily in individual schedule to stay on track for start and finish dates. Report progress.
  • Deliver aggressive annual cost savings, while enhancing safety & product quality, through creation, optimization, and standardization of components, processes, and modules/sub-assemblies
  • Identification, approval, and implementation of process & product improvements to reduce cost & improve quality for assigned product(s)
Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical or Industrial Engineering) from an accredited university
  • 1 year of experience in product engineering for manufacturing using 3D modeling software
  • 1 year experience in mechanical product assembly or quality control
  • Registered as a member in training with APEGA
  • No Sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
  • No Relocation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior technical experience with Low & Medium Voltage Power Distribution Products
  • Proven ability to design-for-manufacturing in an Engineered-to-Order environment
  • Highly proficient user of Autodesk Inventor 3D Modelling software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC and related software, including MS Office Suite
  • Proficient with MS Visual Studio coding
  • Training and Experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools; Six Sigma Green or Black belt
Position Criteria
  • Strong technical acumen, paired with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including a keen understanding of common sheet-metal forming/fabrication techniques & ability to inspire a shared vision
  • Experience using and interpreting the Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable CSA & UL Standards
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to lead projects/teams and consistently achieve results through self & others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical skills & methodical, objective, approach to problem solving
