Job Summary:

Working under the direction of the Chief Process Engineer, the Process Engineer will be a rotational assignment responsible for plant monitoring and identifying and troubleshooting operational problems in close association with the Production Department and/or the day-to-day technical support to various departments providing technical and administrative oversight to front end engineering design for MOCs. The incumbent will be responsible for developing projects; primarily process design, justification, and evaluating EHS risks.

Job Description:

Environmental, Health and Safety

Technical Ability/Problem Solving
  • Be responsible for plant monitoring and troubleshooting on a day to day basis for the assigned plant. Suggest recommendations to improve plant performance or maintain operational targets
  • Be responsible for day-to-day technical support for departments (Maintenance, EHS, Procurement etc.), usually helping study improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluate and screen plant improvement ideas by helping customers develop justification and performing EHS risk analysis. Perform economic evaluations.
  • Perform engineering calculations to complete the process design for approved project ideas, as assigned by the Chief Process Engineer. Work with others in the Engineering, Maintenance, and Production Departments to gather necessary data.
  • Participate in plant turnarounds by making recommendations for required equipment maintenance, supervising specific jobs (i.e. catalyst replacements, exchanger cleaning), and performing equipment inspections. Also provide contractor oversight and supervision during catalyst changes and heat exchanger cleaning, and other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Department.
  • Support approved projects as an Engineering resource, through the detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases.
Communication, Co-ordination & Reporting
  • Responsible to work effectively with all parties in the Engineering department. Is expected to maintain open lines of communication with all departments.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all members of the Production Department, through daily interaction and involvement in plant activities.
  • Ensure the Chief Process Engineer is kept informed of all significant information.
  • Develop and maintain contacts: onsite, with Process Engineers at other sites, with other resources within the company, and with key vendors. Building strong relationships is a key expectation of this position
  • Complete daily and monthly production accounting.
  • Strong written and verbal skills are essential in this position.
Self/Staff Development
  • Maintains ongoing familiarization with all procedures, equipment and processes through personal initiative.
  • Identifies areas for self-improvement and works with their supervisor to initiate training in these areas.
Productivity & Adaptability
  • Will generally be responsible for the activities associated with several assignments and studies of varying scope and priority. Must manage the activities of each to insure orderly and timely progress occurs on all jobs.
  • Understand and comply with corporate processes and procedures to support internal controls efforts. Identify and brings deficiencies to the attention of department manager.
  • Support the initiatives of Continuous Improvement through teamwork and the application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles to the routine performance of duties.
  • Can be called on at times to be designated a site contact for outside contractors working on our plant site. Would then be expected to follow all requirements as specified in CF’s Contractor Management Program.
  • The incumbent will be required to travel within North America periodically as required for assigned projects.
  • While most projects will be process related in nature, some other projects can be assigned for the growth and development of the incumbent.
  • Will be expected to provide assistance in plant outages and / or turnarounds when requested by the Chief Process Engineer or the Engineering Manager. This may include working in a supervisory role during non‑standard working hour.
