Job Description

In this senior production role, you will lead, coach and develop a diverse salaried and hourly team in achieving their goals in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position reports to the Area Manager of Production and may be responsible for multiple shifts. The average team size includes 6 - 10 salaried team members and 100 - 250 hourly team members. You will be responsible for managing a budget.

Key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Building a ’one team’ culture while launching the new T1 pickup truck in Oshawa
  • Leading and coaching a diverse workforce comprised of salaried and hourly team members to achieve business goals and manufacturing excellence
  • Meeting/exceeding safety, people, quality, responsiveness, cost and environmental goals
  • Analyzing and solving complex manufacturing problems
  • Assisting in obtaining resources to effectively perform operations
  • Taking considerable initiative in decision-making accompanied by a high level of independent discernment
  • Assisting in the overall direction and coordination of manufacturing activities
  • Forecasting for the areas of your responsibility and establishing a course of action to accomplish jobs or projects
  • Complying with the terms of local and master labour agreements
  • Administering corporate policies
  • Maintaining corporate and unit management control systems, budget and other information necessary to monitor performance

The Plant Production Superintendent (Shift Leader Role) provides a great opportunity to lead and be part of all aspects of the business.You will work toimprovesafety culture, empower and lead people, createpartnerships,and leadyour production teamto achieve amazing business results, all while putting the customer at the center of everythingyoudo. Time management, working independently, and organizational skills are a must to focus on and prioritize how to get great results the right way.Good interpersonal skills are critical when working with different members of the team across the plant and the corporation on projects, and ultimately cascading down to the rest of your organization.As a Plant Production Superintendent (Shift Leader), you are representing your department to all levels of the organization. Such a rolecan be very rewarding.
  • Drive Workplace Safety System elements in the department
  • Coach, trainandprovide feedback to improve supervisor (group leader)performance
  • Prepare for and conduct supervisor (group leader)performance evaluations
  • Performance goalcreation for direct reports
  • Manage salaried ’Time Keeping System’and vacation planning
  • Attend andparticipate in human resources meetings
  • Investigate all safety incidents and review Safety Incident Reports
  • Responsible forsafety, ergonomic and workplace organizationstandards
  • Drive Global Manufacturing System principlesdaily through leadingand coaching
  • Check quality standards/alerts are followed and coach and teach quality principles
  • Track and participate in business plan reviews
  • Meet daily production schedules
  • Manage scrap data for waste reduction
  • Monitor and drive budget performance
  • Administer collective agreements
  • Participate in ThroughputImprovement Process (TIP)
  • Ensure environmental targets are achievedfor the department

REQUIREMENTS
  • University Degree or equivalent
  • All required Global Manufacturing System (GMS) training and/or experience in lean manufacturing
  • Experience with time and attendance and shift coverage planning
  • Problem solving/continuous improvement
  • LabourRelations experience
  • Previous plant floor experience in either a supervisory or engineering role
  • Experience leading in a unionized environment
  • Experience in plant floor systems
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in SAP
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Successful candidates will be required to attest to, and be prepared to provide proof of, their vaccination status and that any job offer will be conditional on the candidate being fully vaccinated.

TOTAL COMPENSATION*
  • Median Base Salary of $130,000/year
