What you will be doing

  • Responsibility: Manages the responsible area (all shifts), by ensuring that all aspects of production, food safety and quality are met. Manages goals and objectives for this area/shift. Review and validation of production paperwork.
  • Operations:Ensure that all requirements are followed and enforced (e.g., safety, quality, yield, union issues, HACCP, BRCGS, etc.) daily, and that all Supervisors are following established guidelines and expectations on productivity, quality, and safety. Ensures that all products manufactured in the department meet the company and customer requirement. Participates or assigns an employee when new products are developed, and during plant trials.
  • Reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs/MI)of the department as required. Ensures all SOPs are consistently followed and enforced, Shelf-Life, Traceability, Pricing Updates, Manufacturing Instruction Approval.
  • Ensures BRCGS Ready Plant – Improvement to Pre and Post Op sanitation activities.
  • Weekly KPI Meetings: Facilitate and lead KPI Meetings
  • People Management Skills Required: Team Management – delegating tasks across subordinates, holding reports accountable for results. Team Building – motivating, engaging, sharing information, providing recognition to team members, inspires others, motivates, and creates open/trustworthy 2-way communication within all levels of the organization, developing solutions with team members. Time and Attendance Management – reporting and documenting attendance issues. Performance Management/Coaching/Mentoring – timely, fair, and effective feedback provided documenting/coaching/performance management for team, growing themselves and others; willingness to learn and teach others
  • Courage to challenge the status quo, lead & embrace changes and decisions that drive progress.
  • Budgeting:Responsibility of headcount and associated overhead budget; Labour Variance to Standard.
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures: Adhere/comply with company policies and procedures. Recommend, develop, and implement enhancements and improvements to departmental policies and procedures. Ensure that all employees under position leadership, follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Safety, Quality, Environment & BRC Accountabilities:
  • Promote and comply with all Maple Lodge Farms Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Environmental Management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices laid out by the company. Actively participate in all internal and external audits.
  • Investigate, find root cause, determine corrective action and/or preventative measures and follow up on any deviations noted while performing assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for food safety, quality and legal responsibilities as defined in departmental procedures (e.g., Regulatory Program, SOPs, BRCGS requirements etc..). Attend all meeting related to Operations, Continuous Improvement, HACCP/Food Safety and quality.
  • Office/Plant Based (cold environment - 4 Celsius) – this would be a 30% office & 70% plant

What will you bring

  • Five years’ experience in a food manufacturing industry, preferably meat and in a unionized environment, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role.
  • You lead by example and inspire your team to deliver top results. Your approach is collaborative and offers a forum where everyone feels comfortable bringing new ideas forward. You are passionate about H&S and food safety and promote a culture where safety comes first.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a keen proactive sense of continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRCGS, food safety, food quality, etc.
  • Working knowledge of knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities; Financial acumen to understand costing and budgeting responsibilities
  • Strong Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office – Outlook, Excel etc.)
  • Strong time management skills
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a related field required.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt asset, but not required.
