We are looking to hire a Plant Engineerwho wants to take the next step in their career. This fast paced and exciting role is based out of our Kitchener, Ontario plant. The Engineering & Maintenance department is a unionized manufacturing environment.


This role is fundamental to the efficient operation of plant equipment and services, including cost control, safety, and product quality. The successful candidate will be called on to provide recommendations for continuous improvement of resources (staff, equipment, inventory), processes and efficiencies against standard. A background as a Manufacturing/Maintenance Managing Engineer, or a seasoned Maintenance Supervisor prepared to take on a larger role is sought after in this role.


To earn this role, we will require you to be a confident manager, leader and communicator who takes pride and initiative in your work. You will need to be a champion of employee safety and ensuring overall compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act.


In this job you will work with the leadership team to plan and reach strategic and operational goals and work with your millwright’s getting your hands dirty doing repairs and PM.


Major Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the work and training of the Maintenance department and outside suppliers
  • Provides engineering support by troubleshooting problems and effecting timely solutions to maintain the continuity of production flow.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe work practices of personnel, proper management of resources, quality services and business objectives are achieved.
  • Establish maintenance routines and procedures. Ensure implementation of PM systems
  • Plan, budget, schedule and co-ordinate capital projects.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering services to site.
  • Direct environmental projects and Initiatives at location. Ensure overall environmental compliance
  • Responsible for Health & Safety Components of plant safety focus standards, procedures and protocols
  • Responsible for prudentt management of departmental budget, including budget preparation and cost control.
  • Member of Management Team responsible for planning, budgeting and implementing TQM.
  • Play and essential role in the Health & Safety, Quality and ISO audits.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in the automotive manufacturing tier 1, 2, 3 industries would be highly advantageous
  • Bachelor’s degree in either manufacturing, mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience, and a minimum of five years of progressive management experience in a manufacturing environment in maintenance, or plant engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all environment and safety legislation.
  • Must have demonstrable project/management skills coupled with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a strong planner, well organised, able to handle conflicting priorities and have experience in managing manufacturing contractors and technical staff
  • Excellent technical knowledge including applicable engineering principles and codes, safety and environmental requirements, and other related legislation
  • Experience working with Steam Systems (Boilers etc), Pneumatics, Hydraulics and Electrical systems.
  • Exposure to EPP/EPS or Injection moulding equipment an asset.
  • Experience in Environmental and Energy tracking reporting methods.
  • Knowledge of robotics and PLC systems with ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Experience with the championing of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, Kaizen, and TPM.
