As a summer student, you will be given meaningful, productive and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. Geodemographics and Mapping Services has an exciting opportunity for a Planning or Geography student looking to gain exposure to a planning, forecasting, data modelling and mapping project. In this position you will support the team to research and visually represent socio-economic and international immigration patterns. Specific duties of this position include:

  • Assist with geographics data and assumptions, and with spatial and statistical analysis under the supervision of others on the team.
  • Research, consolidate, and summarize best practices and present findings.
  • Analyze data and visually represent identified patterns and trends.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a diploma or degree program related to Planning, Urban Design or Geography.
  • Proficiency with analytical software tools, including GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Completion of 2nd year of academic training is preferred.
  • A knowledge of City planning policies and procedures would be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires familiarity with research and analytical methods, experience working in a team environment, ability to communicate trends effectively, and thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2020.
