Responsibilities

The Physiotherapist reports to the Manager and assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of assistants and aides. The physiotherapist reports to a Health Services Manager and as a member of a clinical team, the physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. The successful applicant may be required to provide services anywhere within the Rehabilitation Services portfolio.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited university
  • Membership with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists
  • BLS-C
  • Computer skills (statistics input, word processing
  • Physiotherapy is a diverse profession requiring additional courses/education/training in many specialized areas or practice, e.g. cardio-respiratory techniques, acupuncture, stroke rehabilitation, manual therapy, balance training. Etc.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful external applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment

$32.81- $41.43 hourly
