The Technical Services – Packaging Optimization Specialist is responsible for implementing and monitoring the use of packaging technologies and best practices, while developing packaging technical capability throughout the manufacturing organization.

The primary objectives of this role are to:

  • Enhance our North American packaging operations knowledge base through the sharing and implementation of best operating practices, utilizing current plant resources and capabilities
  • Drive the development of evolving equipment standards through leveraging of our OEM relationships and our in-house knowledge base and experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (directly or through subordinate staff):

  • Provide the manufacturing organization with tactical hands-on support to address specific packaging related opportunities, exercising explicit authority to provide technical direction within the region
  • Establish, implement, monitor and encourage effective use of packaging technical best practices, thus developing technical capability within the factories and technical functions
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives, supporting packaging related AOC planning through Focused Improvement Teams and/or direct collaboration with plant specific packaging leaders.
  • Deliver vertical start-up of projects using the Start-up Management processes for equipment including induced failure testing protocol
  • Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILIITES:

This job has no direct reports. Interacts with others using project management and managing by influence skills. Supervises third party and company resources on functional basis.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • University degree is an asset, undergraduate level or better.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands on experience with packaging equipment and related technology.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and how these relate specifically to a packaging area is a definite asset.
  • Leadership and project management experience also a definite plus.

Leadership Abilities:

  • Ability to build strong relationships across a broad range of functions and support their efforts through a collaborative approach. Ability to influence effective decision-making with cross-functional business teams.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface successfully with others representing diverse styles and cultures

Technical Capabilities:

  • Strong technical orientation and can quickly gain credibility across the company, with the ability to improve packaging process efficiencies
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience with process flow diagrams and process narratives
  • Experience in training and facilitation
  • Knowledge of packaging equipment, packaging methods, philosophies and basic packaging SOP’s
  • Expertise in the validation of the feasibility and effectiveness of new technologies
  • Start-up management concepts and commissioning

Business Acumen:

  • Ability to contribute to a broad range of operational and business issues. Ability to make decisions considering the broader implications of these decisions to the organization and all stakeholders.

Travel:

  • Requires travel by vehicle and air, mainly within the North American region, up to 50% of schedule dependent upon requirements of the business.

  • Functional leads of Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain to align on work plans for ongoing and strategic initiatives
  • Meetings and interaction with Innovation leadership team and Commercial team to provide technical perspective and guidance
  • Technical Services Global and Regional teams
