Outreach Caseworker
Flexible 40hour weekly schedule - weekend availability needed*

Position Purpose summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide outreach to the vulnerable individuals in our community who are living rough or in encampments. To work in partnership with the CRU Coordinator and the Indigenous Liaison Worker. Under the guidance of the Housing First Team Lead, the Outreach Worker will complete assessments of individuals living rough or within encampments, and to connect eligible individuals to appropriate services and financial assistance.

Accountabilities:

Casework and Community Support

· Recognize residents of homeless encampments as rights holders.

· Meaningful engagement and effective participation of homeless encampment residents.

· Prohibit forced evictions of homeless encampments.

· Explore viable alternatives to eviction.

· Ensure relocation is a human rights complaint.

· Ensure encampments meet basic needs of residents.

· Provide daily outreach services to vulnerable individuals.

· Ensure human rights-based goals and outcomes, and the preservation of dignity of homeless encampment residents.

· Respect, protect and fulfill the distinct rights of indigenous peoples in all engagements with homeless encampments.

· Assist in housing search.

· Complete wellness checks. Encourages attendance at health appointments, community supports and case conferences.

· Assist in providing basic needs to individuals, such as: providing blankets, personal hygiene items, clothing, beverages, food, and ministry.

· Develop and maintain productive working relationships with program partners and other community agencies. Serve as liaison between individuals and community.

· Work collaboratively with municipality, community agencies and resources, and Indigenous community elders on the following:

¾ provide referrals and follow up to social services agencies within the community in terms of clothing and personal care items for the elements.

¾ Make referrals to partner agencies, and track outcomes as needed.

¾ Assist in providing practical assistance for individuals through the Fort McMurray.

¾ Follow up and coordinate with other service providers to ensure individuals are referred to appropriate supports.

· Build professional working relationships with at risk vulnerable individuals/families at a grass root, level.

· Conducts crisis intervention as needed.

Administration and Reporting

· Maintain confidentiality of files and statistical records.

· Record and maintain stats on individuals served and enter required information into database.

· Completes administrative duties meeting reporting deadlines in accordance with program and organizational guidelines.

Salary: $30.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Fort Mcmurray, AB T9H 0A2: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)

Experience:

  • Working with vulnerable individuals: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence & Drivers Abstract (preferred)
