Position Summary

The Operational Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and configuration of games to ensure they are configured with updates and running smoothly with minimal downtime or error.

Position Responsibilities

Game Installation and Configuration

  • Maintaining and developing game architecture and configurations
  • Monitoring games to detect and resolve potential issues in real-time
  • Applying new updates and patches as required
  • Continuously liaising with members of Live Production team to maintain awareness of potential interruptions, as well as implementing updates for specific requests (in-game events, etc.)

Support and Maintenance

  • Conduct regular maintenances to configure changes or updates to game(s) infrastructure
  • Conduct maintenances in emergency events requiring immediate intervention
  • Implement patches to games
  • Tending to all game(s) infrastructure related tasks as required
  • Managing updates to servers, including hard drive space, memory, etc.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the game(s) servers software and hardware
  • Coordinating deployment of in-game events
  • Following up on events for reporting purposes
  • Troubleshooting application and server level problems for internal games systems
  • Maintaining documentation of games systems configurations and procedures
  • 24 x 7 on-call support and maintenance activities

Position Outcomes/Objectives and Standards of Performance

1.Proactively monitoring games for potential issues, and resolving concerns in a timely and effective manner.

Incumbent is actively monitoring games to catch potential issues. Concerns brought forward by other team members are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

2.Games are configured and upgraded to latest version.

Service performance compared against HQ’s standards.

3.All activities related to games are well documented and reported on.

Detailed reports on any update, upgrade, or change to games produced as requested on an ad hoc basis.

4.Incumbent demonstrates behaviours aligned with the organization’s values, vision and mission statement.

Feedback from stakeholders and team members confirms that incumbent consistently demonstrates actions aligned with company’s values.

Required Behaviour, Skills, and Knowledge

Qualifications and Skills

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or relevant field a requirement
  • Knowledge of SQL a requirement
  • Knowledge of scripting a requirement
  • Knowledge of Windows a requirement
  • Knowledge of Linux an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written a requirement
  • Must have a service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with high quality work
