Your Opportunity:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) reports to the manager of Addiction and Mental Health Adult Outreach Services in Medicine Hat, Alberta. This role is specialized to provide services to Addiction and Mental Health clients. The primary focus of the NP role is diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, other therapies and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. As directed by the program, the NP is also responsible to serve as a consultant to the public, AHS staff, and community service providers in regard to Addictions services, to coordinate and support Addictions care for clients within the scope of a Nurse Practitioner.

Description:

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with experience in patient-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-based care for the AMH Outreach Team in Medicine Hat, Alberta. This position is based out of the RRC Building and will provide concurrent support to individuals who require treatment in place for a variety of medical conditions, mental illness, addiction, and chronic disease. The NP will collaborate with AMH staff and physicians to assess and treat detoxification clients with complex Addiction, Medical co-morbities, and Mental Health conditions including those that are on a Community Treatment Order under the Mental Health Act. The Nurse Practitioner must be authorized by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta to prescribe controlled drugs and substances including Suboxone and will work to enhance addiction treatment for opioid dependent clients with a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable approach to prevent and reduce harm related to opioid dependence. This position will foster collaborative partnerships with clients, physicians/psychiatrists, and community stakeholders to enhance and develop AMH programs and services. This position will work in a multidisciplinary team environment including; RN’s/RPN’s, LPN’s, Mental Health Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Therapy Assistants and Addiction Counsellors.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved NP program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level. Registration with CARNA as an NP.

Additional Required Qualifications:

NVCI; and two years minimum recent clinical experience as an NP preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and/or experience of addiction and/or mental health treatment modalities (e.g., motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused therapy) is an asset. Recent experience providing Addiction and Mental Health services is preferred. Experience engaging complex clients in a variety of settings is an asset. Knowledge and/or experience of harm reduction strategies is an asset.
