THE OPPORTUNITY

In the past year, our Payroll team has collaborated with a third-party consultant to pinpoint opportunities in people, processes, and technology. Through this initiative, we’ve identified several areas for improvement, focusing on optimizing our use of ADP Workforce Now, restructuring the team into specialized roles, and implementing process enhancements to establish a scalable and leading-edge function.

As the Payroll Manager reporting to the Vice President, FP&A, you will play a pivotal role in both hands-on payroll activities and spearheading process improvement projects. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the company’s expansion into new geographies, allowing you to broaden your compliance knowledge and collaborate with the team to meet evolving requirements. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of four payroll professionals, providing motivation, coaching, and expert guidance in payroll processes and compliance.
  • Proactively identify and capitalize on opportunities to streamline payroll policies and processes, leveraging automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Payroll Operations:

  • Oversee full cycle payroll for approximately 750 US salaried and hourly and 100 Canadian salaried employees on a semi-monthly cycle.
  • Own Executive payroll for VP+ positions.
  • Prepare sensitive documents, including severance and stay bonus agreements.
  • Manage inquiries and conduct income statement analyses for payroll accounts at month-end, preparing necessary adjustment journal entries.
  • Provide support for compensation scorecards, bonus reviews, and leasing commission processes.

Reconciliation and Analysis:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly payroll reports, offering insights to various stakeholders.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of payroll-related bank accounts.
  • Develop and furnish compensation and benefits reporting for management and executives.
  • Collaborate with various teams, including accounting and operations, to establish new areas of analysis.
  • Take charge of formulating payroll cost allocation rulesets.

Payroll Compliance

  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal and local regulations by proactively researching and staying abreast of compliance updates.
  • Review and reconcile year-end items, such as Forms W-2 and 1095-C, to meet auditing standards.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • 5+ years of full-cycle US payroll processing. Canadian experience is an asset.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience required.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel required with a passion for learning technology.
  • Proven ability to lead with previous experience managing a team and driving change.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Designation through the American Payroll Association an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and to partner with stakeholders at multiple levels including Executives, Operations, Acquisitions, and IT.
  • Aptitude to leverage technology to gain efficiency and improve processes.
