The Regional Cancer Program oversees the delivery of cancer services across the Erie St. Clair (ESC) region. The Indigenous Projects Coordinator supports the work of the ESC Indigenous Cancer Program’s successful implementation of the First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous (FNIMuI) Cancer Strategy 2019-2024 in the region. As a vital team member, the Project Coordinator will provide a broad range of project and administrative support services relevant to improving the cancer journey with, and for, FNIMuI patients, family members and communities. The Project Coordinator will support the building and maintaining of relationships through respectful engagement with Indigenous partner organizations. This position supports the leadership team with regional program development through the coordination of regional work plan deliverables and continuing strategies and events.


The Patient Education aspect of this position will utilize plain language expertise and best practices to develop and implement comprehensive education strategies responsive to the identified needs of cancer patients and their families across the ESC region. The Coordinator works within a team environment to foster and support cross-discipline collaboration and sharing of patient education expertise both with clinical teams and regional partners. They ensure educational strategy alignment with the goals and priorities of Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie St Clair Regional Cancer Program and Ontario Health, Cancer Care Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend monthly OH-CCO meetings as required; participate in discussions and review of materials as requested; attend annual OH-CCO Face-to-Face meetings
  • Implement the goals and objectives found in the First Nations, Inuit, Metis and Urban Indigenous (FNIMuI) Cancer Strategy (2019-2024)
  • Support the work plan deliverables of the Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead
  • Support the work plan deliverables of the Regional Indigenous Navigator
  • Support the work plan deliverables of the Indigenous Projects Coordinator
  • Support the work plan deliverables of the Patient Education Lead
  • Support cancer prevention and screening initiatives with stakeholders and partners in the region
  • Develops and implements education strategies based on current evidence and/or best practice, across the ESC region.
  • Consider the cultural needs of Indigenous communities in the provision of optimal communications and education strategies within the ESC region;
  • Conducts environmental scans or needs assessments related to Indigenous cancer patient educational strategies and materials across the cancer continuum as required
  • Develops an annual cancer patient education plan identifying key initiatives, performance measures/benchmarks and timeliness targets; includes a comprehensive evaluation strategy as integral to strategy success.
  • Plans for, interprets and analyzes relevant data to guide quality improvements
  • Considers the culturally sensitive needs of targeted communities in the planning of optimal educational venues and development of educational tools
  • Assists with the development of grant proposals related to cancer patient education
  • Manages process improvements and program development projects, keeping senior management apprised of progress and issues.
  • Attend community events as requested by community organizations and stakeholders


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Health, Social Sciences, Education or related field.
  • A minimum 2-3 years direct experience in a healthcare setting preferred;
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a project coordinator role (project planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting);
  • Experience working independently as well as in a team and effectively managing multiple priorities;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation, Inuit and Métis history, culture and health/socio-economic issues/needs;
  • Knowledge of the concepts of culturally safe care and how this is supported in a healthcare environment;
  • Knowledge of the healthcare environment and the cancer system as well as the cancer journey as it relates to FNIMuI people;
  • Positive interpersonal skills and professionalism;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Demonstrated problem solving;
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to facilitate change;
  • Experience in evidence-based research and evaluation an asset;
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite applications required;
  • Familiarity with Google Workplace is an asset;
  • Design skills (Canva; Adobe and Photoshop or otherwise) are highly encouraged;
  • French Language proficiency an asset;
  • Video editing is considered an asset; and
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle required.
