Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Community Young Adult Services Care Manager, the Mental Health Therapist Provincial functions in the context of a multi-disciplinary team, providing quality, client focused, culturally appropriate, community and outreach services and is responsible for supporting individuals and their families who are leaving an acute care setting and require high intensity community based follow up in the Edmonton area. The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for bringing a holistic approach to comprehensive assessment, intervention and evaluation that maintains the uniqueness of each individual within a wellness-oriented transitional service delivery model. Assertive and persistent outreach, as well as individual and group interventions are used to engage program participants, facilitate recovery from addiction and/or mental health concerns and create a planning partnership to achieve the highest level of community functioning with the least ongoing professional supports. Interventions will be holistic and focus on the unique transition domains of young people as they move towards independent adults including: Employment/Career, Educational, and Living Situation, Personal Effectiveness/Wellbeing and Community-Life Functioning Essential to the skill-set of this position will be an understanding of how mental illness and addiction impact the transition age youth and young adults, methods of successful welcoming and engaging, clinical assessment skills, and thorough understanding, demonstration, and implementation of recovery oriented care. Practice and knowledge of concurrent care best practices and evidence based techniques is also an expectation. Urgent and routine care are expected within the role. This Mental Health position is a multisite mobile community based position.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: master’s degree in Psychology; master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; master’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; master’s degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current CPR certification, BLS Level C. Training in crisis intervention, assessment and case management skills are essential, preferably in a community setting. Experience in the mental health field with young adults (16-25 years old) is essential, preferably in a community setting. Excellent and demonstrated ability to engage with participants, commendable interpersonal skills, computer proficiencies, and well developed writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Training and working knowledge of Connect Care would be an asset. Experience with group facilitation and individual psychotherapy and case management would be an asset. Advanced training in psychotherapeutic modalities (MI, CBT, EMDR, etc.) preferred.
