About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technical Specialist works collaboratively with the Chiefs of Service, Medical and Clinical Directors, Technical Supervisors, Central Zone Quality Technical Specialist and the Provincial Quality Coordinator to ensure the division is achieving the quality objectives. The Technical Specialist will have responsibilities for quality activities related to the implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System in the Laboratories. The Technical Specialist will have a leadership role participating in quality activities such as auditing, education, trending indicators, surveys, annual reviews and laboratory accreditations. The Technical Specialist will have responsibility in the administering and maintaining of the document control system ensuring a standardized approach to document management. The Technical Specialist will participate in quality work groups and committees and work in a team environment with other Technical Specialists with responsibilities for quality. The Technical Specialist will investigate best practices and risk reduction strategies bringing recommendations forward to the divisional management team. The Technical Specialist will be a resource for other laboratories in Central Zone.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Must be a graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology OR Graduate with a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Core Laboratory experience is preferred (Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology, Quality)
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a clinical laboratory required
  • Experience with the laboratory Quality Management system an asset
  • Certification from CSMLS and licensed with NSCMLT is required
  • Experience with LIS (Cerner Millennium) preferred
  • Experience with document control systems, and other related computer skills an asset
  • Education programs specific to Quality an asset
  • Knowledge of appropriate laboratory accreditation, legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Experience in policy and procedure development
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Must have demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Focus on Quality Improvement, Accountability, Shared Learning and Teamwork
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Short Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning May 23, 2023 for approximately 6 months

Compensation and Incentives

$34.23 - $41.55 hourly
