About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, the Technical Specialist will function as an integral member of the Laboratory Services team to ensure optimum quality of services provided within their designated portfolio in liaison with Director, Manager and Pathologists. The Technical Specialist will be responsible for the work flow / schedule for the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Laboratory; educating and providing technical support to the staff as well as maintaining expertise that allows for troubleshooting of LIS-related issues, obtaining workload data, and act as a resource for the staff; the coordination of all new employees and students working with the laboratory staff to schedule and ensure a quality placement experience; and assisting in managing the daily operations of the laboratory as a whole (where and when needed).

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Current registration with CSMLS and current licensure (or eligibility) with the NSCMLT required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive laboratory experience required (preferably in a hospital setting)
  • Extensive experience in Clinical Chemistry is required
  • Experience with laboratory information systems is required. Experience with the Meditech information system is preferred
  • Experience in training of laboratory staff and/or students is preferred. Development of a training schedule for staff and/or students would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and working experience with Microsoft Office programs is required
  • Experience in obtaining, correlating, and presenting data to management is an asset
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all health care information is required
  • Demonstrated participation in relevant and current continuing education and upgrading of skills required
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including respect for staff, other providers, clients/patients and others required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, and maintain a positive work environment
  • Evidence of effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve and work under pressure of time limitations is required
  • Good practical technique with manual dexterity required
  • Previous work attendance may be considered
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Long Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning March 27, 2023 for approximately 24 months

Compensation and Incentives

$33.73 - $40.94 hourly
