Please include a cover letter with your resume (in one file) outlining why you think you’d be a great fit at Photonic and what attributes you could bring to our growing team.

Mechanical Engineers at Photonic design, develop, build, and test mechanical and thermal sensors and devices for our silicon quantum processors. You will create and analyze designs, run simulations and test how components interact with other aspects of the system. You are a natural trouble-shooter, comfortable stepping up to identify and address system issues. You are an excellent communicator, comfortable working in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists.

What we need you to do:

  • Design, prototype, build, test, and improve components and mechanical systems using analysis and computer-aided design tools
  • Drive the successful integration, testing, support, and improvement of our quantum systems
  • Analyze systems to see how mechanical devices address particular challenges in our quantum processing environment
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, recommend and implement remedies
  • Develop methodologies and processes for component fabrication and assembly
  • Analyze performance or test results and change the design or system as needed
  • Oversee and develop manufacturing processes

What you bring to our team:

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering-Physics or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of industry experience in a research and development environment, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Outstanding teamwork skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Exceptional candidates will have:

  • Extensive experience using SolidWorks and PDM
  • Experience with vacuum or cryogenic systems
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • A willingness to go above and beyond for the success of the team

Bonus

Photonic is designing the world’s first quantum processor in silicon. It would be awesome if you had some familiarity with quantum physics, mathematics, and programming, but we will ensure that team members will have the opportunity to learn about quantum computing as we grow.
