We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Innovation Lead to join our team in Vaughn, ON.
**
*As theMechanical Engineer, Innovation Lead* you will join a multidisciplinary group focused on product design innovation that positions us ( Samuel Packaging Systems Group ) as a market leader. Working with Engineering specialists in Electrical and Controls, you will add Mechanical strength to a team actively involved in driving high reaching and aggressive change to our historical design. You will play a key role in delivery of new products to the market.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mechanical design of innovative automated equipment and components
  • Work in conjunction with Electrical and Controls centered resources to develop high reaching outcomes
  • Participate in continuous learning activity through Design, Product Development and other assigned projects
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints as well as electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Make acceptable judgment calls and decisions based in relation to mechanical design
  • Work cross functionally and lead teams when called upon
  • Participate in Lean initiatives and other developmental projects
  • Interact with customers in requirements gathering, installation and field support as needed
  • Be mechanically hands-on in product development, testing and trouble shooting

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with equipment Mechanical Design
  • Supervisory/Leadership experience preferred
  • A demonstrated ability to handle stressful and challenging situations
  • Strong verbal and written communication both
  • Self-motivated individual that can work alone and in teams with little or no supervision
  • Qualifications and/or Experience with Failure Effects Analysis (FEA) a plus
  • Experience, training, and interest with i4.0 and mechanical/electrical IOT/IIOT interactions and feedback
  • Knowledge of Motion Control Systems, preferably but not limited to A-B/Rockwell
  • Robotics and Machine Vision system experience is a plus
  • AutoCAD/Solidworks design experience
  • Basic understanding of fluid power circuits an asset
  • The ability to travel to North American Samuel Packaging Systems Group manufacturing sites and customers sites (approximately 25% travel)
  • Work safely around automated equipment with little to no supervision while following all company and customer safety policies
  • Weekend, holidays and overtime occasionally required
  • Must have a Driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Must be able to work in various work conditions
