About Our Operation

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.

Your Next Challenge

Reporting to the Energy & Infrastructure Superintendent, the Mechanical Engineer is a member of the Energy & Infrastructure Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. They will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
  • Participate in the development, optimization, maintenance and refurbishment of surface infrastructures such as power plant, process plant, fuel systems, incinerator, heat systems, HVAC, buildings, etc.;
  • Ensure that projects are well defined at the onset and meet the needs of individual clients internally;
  • Be on the lookout for opportunities for improvements and provide the supervisor with recommendations;
  • Establish and prioritize the work priorities of the sector for approval by the supervisor;
  • Determine action steps and milestones required to implement a specific business initiative; adjust activities or timelines as circumstances warrant;
  • Generate options for action to address an issue or opportunity; develop decision criteria that prioritize potential business outcomes, customer needs, available resources, technological advances, and organizational values while selecting the best course of action;
  • Involves others in the decision-making process as needed to obtain information, generate alternatives, make the best decision, and ensure buy-in while building consensus when appropriate.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • 3-5 years of experience in the mining industry (experience in an industrial setting could also be considered);
  • Member of a professional association (P. Eng. designation is considered an asset);
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites;
  • Experience using AutoCAD and mine design/planning software is considered an asset;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
