WhiteWater is hiring for a Mechanical Engineer (Composite)to join its Composite Engineering (CE) team! Reporting to the Manager, Composite Engineering, you will be an integral member of the team and will be responsible for composite design & analysis of new and existing products and components. You will provide technical support to functional groups involved with the entire spectrum of the product life cycle. Daily duties can include information collection, perform research, conduct experiments, consult, design and document activities along with analysis as required to find timely, efficient, cost-effective solutions to design challenges posed. You should be able to produce models, drawings and bills of materials of designed/drafted components for manufacturing in FRP plants.

YOUR ROLE: *

  • Determine design specifications in response to composite component requirements.
  • Directly create and/or modify engineering and product designs in SolidWorks.
  • Review, quality check, approve and release engineering deliverables and documentation for new and standard products following best engineering and design practices.
  • Design and analysis of jigs and fixtures as require for manufacturability of new designs.
  • Troubleshoot engineering and design-related issues for FRP products to determine root cause and provide corrective actions.
  • Review ongoing FRP product performance at various customer sites.
  • Provide technical support to client and project teams.
  • Create drawings and bill of materials in accordance with industry standards for FRP fabrication purpose.
  • Perform and participate in risk assessments (such as hazard analysis and design failure mode effects analysis) as necessary.
  • Participation in development of FRP standards, test plans and improvement processes.
  • Write, publish and support the execution of Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Non-Compliance Reporting (NCR) and Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) procedures.
  • Write and publish technical reports as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental teamwork and efforts to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and follow best practices in Engineering, Customer Service, Quality, Lean Management and Safety.
  • Define and align personal development goals with departmental goals.

YOU BRING:

  • Minimum educational requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience.
  • Eligible to register with APEGBC.
  • Proficiency with using SolidWorks and PDM systems – experience with other 3D modelling software packages would be considered an asset.
  • Strong problem solving, technical writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of FRP design, analysis, fabrication drawing production, laminate schedules and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of fabrication practices involving steel, welding and preferably, fibreglass products preferred.
  • Knowledge of APQP & PPAP is a strong asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
