Our client, a leader in the Medical Device industry, is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join their team on a contract basis in the Oakville area.
  • Description:* Seeking a mechanical design engineer to assist with new product introductions.
  • Review high level user/project requirements and translate them to (mechanical) product (functional and performance) requirements
  • Design and Develop mechanical components and assemblies from design/product requirements (this may include but not limited to fabricated metal components, plastic injection product enclosures and electrical-mechanical interfaces as needed)
  • Work with purchasing to manage BOM COGS targets throughout the development process and provides input into the make/buy process
  • Support engineering prototype builds and resolve assembly/testing issues throughout the pilot build
  • Perform root cause analysis, verify and implement corrective actions as it relates to product quality issues
  • Initiate, promote, and manage engineering change notices and document engineering justification (i.e. rationale) supporting the change
  • Perform initial feasibility (fit, form, function, cost, lead-time) for OTS component selection and provide input into the qualification plan
  • Assist with the development of mechanical design verification test protocols, execution and report (including failure mode analysis and disposition) of electrical-mechanical systems
  • Assist with assessment of suppliers and supplied product conformance; including tolerance analysis, first article inspections, part traceability, and part risk level determination
  • Support product safety certification process (ex: IEC 60601-1) and human factors engineering
  • Responsible for dFMEA and provide input into pFMEA and production controls to ensure product quality
  • Develop and monitor (day to day) mechanical timelines against project milestones. Report project issues to engineering and project management Job Breakdown: 50% Design Work
  • Solidworks 25% Meetings, Project Reporting 25% Prototyping/ Testing
  • MUST HAVE 1:* Minimum of 5 years of Mechanical design experience.

  • MUST HAVE 2:* Solidworks experience (5 years)
  • plastic, sheet metal, and electro-mechanical sub assemblies

  • 3D Designs and 2D drawings, BOM lifecycle management
  • MUST HAVE 3:* Capable of working to product requirements, monitoring program milestones, report project issues as they occur - able to remove technical road blocks
  • MUST HAVE 4:* Plastic enclosure design experience
  • MUST HAVE 5:* Capable of managing vendor deliverables
