Job Purpose
We’re looking for a Technical Writer - Contract to create, edit, and transfer assembly documentation. In this role, you’ll work with the manufacturing engineering team to support product transfers, to ensure a smooth transition. Additionally, you will be a core part of the team in charge of transferring our current assembly instructions to our new digital software, Visual Factory. The ideal candidate has demonstrably strong communication and writing skills, and can effectively interact with engineers, management staff and production operators.
This is a temporary position for 9 months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Convert Electrical schematic to Wiring diagram to improve readability of Engineering documentation.
Write accurate work instructions to support the company’s work instruction process and support their transfer to Visual Factory
Work with engineering and subject matter experts (SMEs) to obtain product and/or process familiarization and specific documentation requirements and information.
Conduct time studies to quantify processing times and ensure production lines are balanced
Photograph products and/or develop graphics to augment textual information.
Follow style standards for procedure documentation and work instructions. Ensure writing style of all technical documentation is simple, clear, concise, grammatically correct, and written for the intended audience and purpose.
Revise existing documentation based on product changes documented in Engineering Change orders (ECOs)
Support the product transfer process by reviewing bills of material, drawings and work instructions for accuracy and working with appropriate departments to correct, if necessary
Provide input on processes, procedures, materials, and services to support innovation and continuous improvement.
Support continuous improvement efforts with the team and promote healthy, respectful communications.
Assist with hands-on training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment, and process revisions to support implementation of any new processes
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Diploma or equivalent experience.
Knowledge in using SolidWorks or AutoCAD
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from engineering, support, and management
Work independently with little supervision
Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking
Proficiency in MS Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, CAD models, and schematics
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of PLM/ERP software
Knowledge of Visual Factory software
Experience creating infographics such as diagrams, screenshots, workflows, graphs, etc.
