As the Manager, Operational Risk you will lead initiatives aimed at identifying, strategizing, and executing solutions to mitigate risks to our business. To be successful in this role you will need a deep understanding of global business, from ground level transactional data up to macroeconomic and societal trends. Leveraging this insight, you will play a pivotal role in advising on strategy, updating policies, and implementing innovative tools and techniques to effectively mitigate risks and support the growth of our business.

This role requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration and partnership, given that risks can impact various facets of our business. Consequently, strengths in relationship building and strategy enrollment are crucial. Whether engaging with Business Partners at our Vancouver headquarters, NAM Retail Leaders, or International Partners in EMEA and APAC markets, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Meet Your Future Team:

The Operational Risk Team functions within the Finance Transformation and Optimization team, with a primary responsibility for analyzing and monitoring key risks alongside implementing risk mitigation strategies. This includes identifying control optimization opportunities among other tasks. Our team takes the lead in developing and overseeing operational risk mitigation strategies throughout the entire process, spanning from initial assessment to continuous monitoring of risk status. We consider both internal and external factors that have an impact on the business.

If you were the Manager, Operational Risk, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
  • Proactively assessing new and emerging risks to our commercial business through strong partnerships with cross-functional business units
  • Evaluating operational risks faced by different business units to achieve their business objectives and assessing their control strategies and measures in place to mitigate these risks
  • Providing value-add recommendations to operational management with respect to policies and procedures, internal controls, and operational best practices
  • Analyzing internal data, published research, and trade articles concerning global retail trends, parallel importation, and gray market good
  • Developing and implementing a risk management framework, leveraging friction, systematic controls, introduction of risk and policy updates, to mitigate business impacts
  • Leading investigations into events, trends, individuals, syndicates, and other organized groups that present operational risk challenges to our global growth
  • Planning and executing global risk related strategic projects, process changes, system implementations and policy updates
  • Regularly briefing Senior Leaders and Business Stakeholders on risk metrics, trends, and program progress
  • Aligning with global cross functional partners on risk vision, strategy, and operational plans
  • Working with data analytic teams in creating risk focused KPIs and dashboards to measure success and identify areas of opportunity
Are you our next Manager, Operational Risk?
  • You have a university degree in Finance/Accounting, Technology, or equivalent
  • You have 5+ years work experience in a Risk Advisory, Risk Assessment, or Strategy role
  • You have 5+ years work experience in Retail, with channel exposure to store, omni and ecommerce, systems, programs, and processes
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, have exceptional attention to detail, and can clearly articulate the risk likelihood, impact, and recommended action to all levels of leadership
  • You have strong working knowledge of risk management and control principles, standards, and methodologies (e.g., COSO, COBIT, NIST, etc.)
  • You demonstrate a high level of business acumen and understanding
  • You can synthesize a great deal of data and contextual information to produce actionable strategies and results
  • You have a strong background in auditing, risk advisory, compliance, and/or investigations
  • You are a leader with a proven track record of working in a complex environment, engaging stakeholders at the local and regional levels in a matrix
  • You understand the power of influence and use it effectively in communication
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of stakeholders
  • You have excellent organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • You are dynamic and strategic, adept at adapting, strategizing, and innovating to drive organizational goals effectively
  • You’re comfortable with SQL, Power BI, Tableau data visualization
  • You have a solid understanding of communications, change management and training
  • You are an excellent collaborator, and you work effectively in a team
  • You seek the best (but sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
$102,000 - $128,000 a year

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$102,000 - CAD$128,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.

Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits that we offer.
