About Us

Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA) seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Manager of Security and Facilities. Gander International Airport is vital to the economic well-being of Central Newfoundland.

Position Summary

The Manager of Security and Facilities will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to oversee airport security, facilities management, and customer experience functions. This role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and the Senior Leadership Team, to align departmental priorities with organizational goals. The successful candidate will lead a cross-functional team, develop annual business plans and budgets, and ensure regulatory compliance while fostering a positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Collaborate with the management team to align departmental priorities with organizational goals.

· Provide management and technical expertise to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.

· Prepare and deliver status presentations and reports for the Board of Directors.

· Develop and implement the human resources delivery model for facility maintenance and airport services.

· Lead the development and execution of preventative maintenance programs.

· Address labour relations issues and administer operational and capital budgets.

· Represent Gander International Airport in procuring contracts and supplies.

· Ensure regulatory compliance with fleet equipment, airfield maintenance, and employee training requirements.

· Serves on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

Reporting Structure

Supervisors, electricians, power engineers, carpenters, and trades helpers report directly to the Manager of Security and Facilities.

Security Oversight

· Develop and implement goals for airport security programs and facilities.

· Enhance customer service initiatives for a positive travel experience.

· Monitor security programs to comply with regulations and develop contingency plans.

· Manage roles and responsibilities for security personnel.

· Oversee the Restricted Area Identification Card program.

· Lead the Emergency Coordination Center.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

· Interface with airport partners and third-party vendors to address operational issues.

· Provide leadership in customer service for airline operations.

· Communicate with Transport Canada on operational and security matters.

General Management and Organizational Tasks

· Manage employee leave and budget development.

· Develop strategies for performance optimization.

· Enhance GIAA’s public image and represent the authority in meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of airline, aircraft, and airport procedures.

· Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

· Experience in collective bargaining and conflict resolution.

· Proficiency in Office suite, CAD an asset

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Aviation Management, Safety Management, or a related discipline.

· Minimum of three years experience in an airport supervisory or managerial capacity.

· Strong knowledge of aviation regulations and safety standards.

· Obtain an AVOP and D license.

· Obtain and retain a Transportation/Public Works Security Clearance.

Salary

· Salary starts at $97,000

· RRSP contribution program 13% employer/5% employee

· Access to a company vehicle
