The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development has a mandate to manage specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government. As the Licensed Authorizations Officer, you will work in a variety of settings and provide professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector.

You enjoy researching, analyzing and evaluating information for the development of strategic land management plans. Allocating Crown land in a way that ensures its best use and minimizing its effect on other values, you utilize your knowledge of resource management and superior negotiating abilities. Effective communication skills are necessary when liaising with other agencies, leading conflict resolution, and resolving disputes with diverse stakeholders over the use of Crown land and other natural resources. If you are a motivated natural resource management specialist with the expertise and initiative to take on this important role, we look forward to your application.

Reporting to a section head or excluded manager and working in a variety of settings, the Licensed Authorizations Officer provides professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.


Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Experience preparing and administering a project budget.


Proviso & Willingness Statements:

  • Valid BC driver’s licence.
  • To conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot.
  • To overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions.
  • To work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
