$80,823.09 - $107,139.89 annually plus 6.5% recruitment and retention adjustment. Bi-weekly isolation allowance of $53.13 for Fort Nelson.

This position is central to the implementation and development of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, one of British Columbia’s key greenhouse gas reduction strategies. The position guides the development of ministry policy and standards and provides authoritative advice as a recognized technical expert, to government executive, on matters impacting strategic direction and significant government priorities that are essential to the Province achieving its low carbon fuel objectives for the transportation sector and overarching climate change targets.

The Low Carbon Fuels Branch develops and implements leading-edge legislation, policies and programs to decarbonize fuel and spur growth in the clean fuels industry in BC. The legislation, policies and programs for which it is responsible focus on decreasing the carbon intensity of fuels consumed in the province. This work is critical to meeting the Province’s greenhouse gas reduction targets and ensuring BC thrives in the low-carbon economy of the future. Work under the Branch is performed in coordination or partnership with other ministries, all levels of government within Canada, international governments, industry, utilities, non-government organizations, academic institutions and public interest groups.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in a related professional field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia).

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Experience in lifecycle assessment, in particular fuel lifecycle assessment.
  • Experience in science-based policy development in resource management or infrastructure development.
  • Experience managing teams and providing technical supervision.
  • Experience in greenhouse gas accounting, in particular third-party verification of emissions or fuel volumes used in reporting.
  • Experience developing programs and managing complex projects.

This is a temporary opportunity until 02/28/2025. This temporary opportunity may become permanent.
This position can be based in any Natural Resource Ministry office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
