DESCRIPTION:
Health Care Assistant Practice Education Instructors instruct and supervise students in the Lab module, care facilities (multi level and complex care) and monitor practicum placements.
This is an ongoing position for Instruction in the Langford area, to support HCA students at new campuses.
Full training for Instructing is provided as well as site orientations.
DUTIES REQUIRED OF THE HCA PRACTICICE EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR:
- Adhere to the policies and mandates of Excel Career College and the BC Care Aid & Community Health Worker Registry: https://www.cachwr.bc.ca/educators.aspx
- Adhere to the duties required of the Theory Instructors when instructing the lab module,
- Conduct lab skills assessments with case scenarios at the end of the lab module,
- Liaise with extended care facilities, being the “Point Person” for communication between the student and site Manage and mentor student relationships and expectations,
- Assess, evaluate and report, to Administration, on student progress on a weekly basis,
- Indirect and direct supervision of students including: Oversee student progress during clinical placements, Checking in with the student each week during practicum placements and visiting, if necessary, Confirming practicum and clinical hours are tracked/met, and reported to Administration on a weekly basis, and
- Making the final evaluation decision (learning outcomes met/not met), completing a final evaluation form for each student, signing and/or coordinating practicum supervisors signatures on the form(s), submitting original form(s) to Administration within 2 weeks of completion, and including a summary in the semi-monthly reporting to the Program Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Current full registration with the CLPNBC, CRNBC, or the CRPNBC and,
Ability to teach adult learners, and;
Two or more years of full-time nursing experience (1 year=1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing work experience to include:
o Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs
o Experience or orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Hand sanitization is required frequently and masks must be worn at all times in common areas, when not at individual work spaces and when social distancing is not possible. Non-scheduled staff and students must sign in when on site.

- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
Experience:
- Teaching or supervisory/leadership: 2 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Nursing registration in BC (required)
